Sounds good matey only things i'd be tempted to do is get the air filter nearer the front of the bay to get a bit cooler air in. or at least some ducting which i think i've got some at work and could drop in if you need?

The plan is to move the air filter off the turbo and move it forward or out of the bay altogether?.
Get some pics of your cars up....
How is it getting on mate? Sounds well enough in that video!
would be great to see a video of it on the move.
been having trouble with alternator belt cuttin through the bottom hose. after finding the belt wasn't/ couldnt get tight enough it was time to fiddle.
the current bracket just isn't long enough.
plus the crank sensor is held in position by the braket
remember working in my uncles scrap yard once and he twisted round the body to get one to fit so
before
after
Too far
then needed to make a new thingy to keep the alternator in place so raided the scrap bin at work and some time with a cordless drill, jounior hacksaw and file later..
also by using some threaded bar and a few nuts i can set the sensor up and not have to re-set it every time i cahnge the belt
just got to paint it and find some nylock nuts.
this shoud do till i can find out how the sensor is held in a cossy engine thn i'll macine up a proper one, plus it was nice to play with a file an saw.
looking good buddy, glad to see your still on it!!
Your doing a cracking job there mate. You might see mine out this weekend i've got it running much better( duff plug i reckon) And free'd the brakes off because it stood so much last year.

not much to show at the moment.
As many on here will agree it's funny how a little job soon turns into a bigger one. (big jobs!)
What started out with the belt rubbing the bottom hose has led to the turbo comming off and in bits while i stone all the mating surfaces flat and smooth, milling the turbo flange off the manifold, making another flange and buying a welder to put it back on, and next week plan to swap head to a unleaded one.
Basicly trying to sort the leaky exhaust under the bonnet.
Soon will be on the 3rd head in under a year and i doubt the car has done 600miles in that time.
You'll get there matey. The unleaded head flow's better anyway you know it makes sense. If you need any spare gasket's i've a full headset apart from inlet and outlet manifold gaskets plus a new set of head bolts.
mk2 capri 3.0s

ok then been dickin' around sorting the manifold out. it started like this
A lot of play/ learning with the welder, machinin a new flange and general metal tickling got it sorted.
followed the advice of others and got some bbq paint, heated the manifold up and sprayed the bugger, turned out alright.
Also been have some gas leaking on the turbo mating faces
so got the oil stone out and tickled some more off
next is to get some gaskets to make sure cant seem to find anyone selling them but there's some copper sheet at work
well the heads off the the capri and the spare engine
one supprise i found was a big noggin of silicon/ gasket blocking one of the cam bearing holes doesn't look like any damage though.
when taking the head of the capri to bits i found that there was a lot of froward/ backward play so fingers crossed everythings ok otherwise more money on a cam
http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthre...61#post1455161
also on a side note went to a local "motor factors" for a gasket from the turbo to the down pipe. now i knew it would be a struggle so i took the old one in and the bloke behind the counter didn't even bother to find an euivilent "if you dont know the car i cant find one" all the tit had to do was measure a couple of gasket. wound me up a little bit.
Who was that then? Sounds a bit like fittapart(shittapart!)
What turbo is it my mate might know?

ok got some copper to knock up some gaskets will get pics of that soon and drev spot on
well been tootling away over the past few days
Got some goddies from ebay the past few weeks.
put the turbo back together tonight.
finaly got the head back together and cam followers adjusted.
re-wrapped the down pipe complete with the worst metal ties ebay has to offer
and put some barrier stuff where the down pipr goes on the bulkhead, had to do it sections to get it right.
this veiw is getting to familiar.
should be running again soon then got to mot the bugger so the to-do list is growin not shrinking.
Wheres that 36-1 trigger wheel from ?
Doing well there Will be good to see it running again
Fingers crossed for this head
Out for a drive on a sunny spring day reminds me why I got this car
it came with the car, though i think i've seen on similar for a transit?? clint was selling some very cheap a while ago.
stu will be glad to actualy drive it for a bit, then got to sort a better rad (thinking getting this to fit) and brakes that work on pressure not will power.
Only took the head off as i had an unleaed one and addertive to a turbo engine's a bit iffy, this all started with the alternator belt not being tight enough and rubbing on the bottom hose "well while thats off....."
The trigger wheel looks like the one I have, from a DOHC I4 (or fwd RS2000 16v).
Regards
Gustaf
never been happy with the coil pack being above the downpipe.
i bought some replacment leads for a mondeo and they were different lengths (thought they all should be same length to perform the best).
so took a strip of alli that was laying around bit of sawing, drilling, fileing an getting bollk'd by the mrs for making a noise later had a braket that mounted it above the rocker.
will see if subjecting the coil pack to engine vibrations is worse than the heat of the exhaust, but since i got a coil pack edis module and vr sensor for £15 from a breakers i've a spare, nothing getting done this weekend will be in the mighty newcastle .
Your coil pack should be ok there mounted on the engine on a zetec anyway. Looks like it might be close to your bonnet though matey?
mk2 capri 3.0s
focus 1.6 zetec runabout
it's actualy lower than the inlet so should be ok.
Got no time this week or next to play, bloody ofsted
It really is good to see it being fixed up properly. You're doing a great job.
The coil pack sits well there.
The trigger wheel is off an 8V DOHC...I bought it new from ford for 11 quid! Might even have the part number lying around somewhere.
How is that turbo holding up? It was a cheapy unbranded one, like the ones that dodgy SS Autochrome sell......BUT, when i got it it seemed equally as good as the garrett turbo (in fact the fixings were nicer) and worked a treat. The back end is actually off a metro turbo mate.
You should email me if you want to know what parts are off what.
are you going the capri show near you?

It would be good to see it there.

the turbo is actual fine very little play in the shaft only some mating faces were a little pitted so sorted them out, my only complaint is that is a bit laggy. the plan is survive work till friday the get it running ready for the capri do the following weekend.
well started putting bits back on rather than taking them off.
first up the head back on
then the ex manifold after skimming another mm of the flange.
the turbo's ack on with some heat barrier on the servo and "adjusted" the brake line to give more clearence, might have to knock something up for the master cylinder.
soldered some fly leads to the coil pack wiring ready for a future play.
with all that done it was time to finaly make the exhaust gasket that i couldn't find anywhere.
started by marking out the gasket
using a sharpened screwdriver, hammer and a bit of ali in a vice started bashing.
first run round the profile
after a second run round taping left me with a nice shape
did the same in the inside, but this bends the material
the bolt holes were a pain as my punch/screwdriver was to big
then with a lot of tapping with a hyde mallet got it flat
finished next to the old one
fitted the down pipe to the turbo and went round with a 0.0015" feeler guage looks good so far.
got the exhaust back together which was a bitch. not doing anythingh now till thursday then i might add some bling
Allot of good work going into this one
Keep it up mate
Does it run again yet ? Hasn't college got a cnc miller for doing the gasket? I could've always drawn it on cad for you and done it on our cnc miller at were i work?
Do you rekon you'll get to wonderland?

i might try to get to wonderland if it's running.
It only took me a hour to make by hand holding 1.5mm thick copper's always a git so it was quicker this way.
had a right day of it.
bought a ebay special rad the volume of the core is more that the standard one but it big in the wrong places.
going to put the standard one on for now.
also tried to put a intercooler in i had laying around but that was to big
nearly all together should start tommorow am fed up again with pissing into the wind though
quick update...
Everything is back togther now, had to change the fuel pressure regulator as is sprayed petrol everywhere
Now the engine wont start so no shows this weekend, time to draw up a checklist and work my way through it.
your doing a cracking job there, you should be proper proud
Cupra Formentor / MR2 Mk3 / Fiat Ambulance
Yeah, it's good to see someone addressing all the problems head on, rather than:
a) throwing stupid amounts of money at it to just replace eveything,
b) adding a bodykit & neons
c) giving up and breaking it for a holiday in malia.
well thought i'd finaly update my progress.
Last week was show weekend with wonderland near me, a good mixed show yanks, cossy's, tvr's and capri's all on one field
the engine was finaly together by friday after minimal fuss and primed the oil a bit to enthusiasticly (that word never ends) with oil all over the floor.
connteced the battery and turned on the ignition to get the fule up to pressure (has to fill the sirl pot before first turning over). One advantage of having a guage one the fpr is you can spot when there's a problem easyer. noticed that the pressure wasn't right.
A look under around the regulator wasn't hard to spot fuel pissing all over the place, the connections were fine so had to swap regulator.
with no obvious leak visable it was time to turn over engine said no, turned over ok but no start.
so it was time to get assistance from the boss "all you have to do is turn a key" obviously a challange from her judging from the face i got reply.
checked the spark and i wasn't brill so changed the plugs breaking half the old one taking them out.
went to turn it over again and obviously turning the key was a difficult task as now the pump in the engine bay wasn't working out with the multimeter no voltage so no knackered pump then. checked the wiring and led to the fuses went through them all looking for a blow and what did i find? a blown 20p fuse, a quick trip to the garage later all was good.
Turned it over on the off chance and it stated wasn't expecting it so had to jump in and get the revs up quick.
As a reward for stating i gave it a wash
took it for a short drive and the noise from the diff/box/rear bearing? is not good but it moves and i'm half way through striping a axel (a half shaft wont come out though).
The MOT is soon so thats the next big challange then going to remap it as it's desperate for a proper map and suitable boost level.
On a side note was going to drive it the the local capri club meet "where the tax disk off the table?" i asked...
"Errrm i've may have trown it out" was the reply, only a month left on it, but no money means it's parked up till the mot at the end of the month.

Doh!!!
As for the axle is the shaft tight on the bearing? I've a slide hammer if you need but i'm not sure if it'll be big enough for that

thanks for the offer drev have got an old steel rim and whaling three kinds of shit out of it with a lump hammer the breaing has moved about 5mm but got side tracked by the engine so i'll have to look at it again.
on the other hand finaly got megatune talking to the megasquirt unit just have to activate the right code version
also got it idling under 1000rpm.
so a summer of remaping to look forward to.
Excellent news - well done
