no much to show at the minute. Decided to sort the map and code in the ecu out.
Have updated the code and now remapping from scratch (it's quicker).
nice woork a lot of thought and hard work there keep it up
Cant get the bloody afr stable am getting seriously fed up of have replaced all but 2 hoses in the egine bay guess whats leaking.
More leaks

Am tempted to cancel the insurance and store it for a year or till i can bear to get back to fixing one problem to find two more.
I know the feeling.
Keep at it mate, it will be worth it in the long run.
best thing to do is to leave it for a week then go back to it. If your heart isn't in it nothing seems to go right.
Just think you could give up and watch eastenders instead
is the alloy rad a honda civic item off of ebay???
The way to my heart: German and RWD!!
spot on it's for sale if anyones interested would realy suit anglia or something not turbo'd.
got up early this morning and covered all the exhaust joints with paste stuff and left it to dry, came back at dinner and put the clamps back on and tightend the manifold back up also tightened the hand brake cable (well spotted me)
went to start the bugger and drained the battery trying, so had to quickly whip the battery off the probe as i was now late
The car went for it MOT and blow me the only thing it failed on were the gasses and could have fixed that if the laptop was charged
At first thought they were taking the pish till i saw the paper work, got some adviseries though brakes and the leaf mounts starting to corrode.
Am propper chuffed but have to try and get the gasses sorted at home they were 8 and it should be 4
If thats all it's failed on then you've done well matey. I saw your garage door open last night but didn't have time to pop in and say hello. Where did you go for the mot?

brookside down the road. £63 got to sort the gasses out and take it for a re test next week.
will be going to thorsby but unfortunatly not in the capri
right it's a bit quiet so i'll try and show how i'm setting up the mega squirt.
Nearly all the inf needed is from http://www.msextra.com/manuals/MS_Ex...x.htm#download but it take some reading
First thing was to down load the mega tune, manuals and firmware.
then had to down load the firmware to the ecu and the ini file to megatune. you do this by opening the batch files in the folder where megetune was installed to.
when downloading firmware follow the instructions and select the right port. with so many usb ports on my laptop i just did trial and error till i found which one worked.
so you got the firmware in the ecu time to start setting megatune.
to start with you need to set up megatune using the configurator.
first thing is to create a new project. Give it a suitable name it helps later
using the dropdown bar at the top set the project according to your car setup and code you want to use
then activate the code you want to use (this should have been transfered to megatune using the batch file earlier)
thats the project configured to your car/ project next is to set the megatune setting........
Good stuff. Just got back on my escort last night so i was on a refresher course on the MS
You will soon be whistling and popping down the road
Brookside thats were i took the 3ltr the other week. nigel's pricey but does a proper job. when i went he had a lotus 7 type thing a mach1 mustang and a early 90's corvette in. And his dad's frogeye sprite they've just bought.

Great read mate, Im about to start on exactly the same conversion with my Capri. I have emailed the Extraefi site for a setup & price of what I need, and a mate is about to build me the manifold. Which turbo did you go for mate, was it the cossie garrett T3?
Cheers

Ford Capri 2.0 Laser
Ford Capri Cosworth YB (in progress)
at the moment i've got a t3/t4 jobby that came with the car (very laggy), will upgrade when ive got a stonger drivetrain.
A T3 is a good cheap option.
nice car and engine you got there
what injectors are you runnin?
a good friend of mine has a similar setup, but we have troble with surge at 1.4-5 bar boost.
i think you will be disappointed if you fit what most people think of as a "T3", cossie 4x4. ebay "turbocharger" kicks ass you know looks like you got the same one as my friend, ar63 exhaust, and quite big compressor and exhaust wheel.
could you please share your msq with us megasquirt heads?

Right basicly i followed the help file information to fill in the basic settings for fuel and spark depending on the set up of the car.
To help with setting up the basic fuel i had to calculate the flow rate of the injector according to the fuel pressure, i found a flow rate at 2.5 bar but am running 3 bar.
anyway found the formula and knocked up the spread sheet to help later on. Someone might find it usefull
Done a couple of jobs.
Finaly fitted the lc1 bit of a pain to fit with some black wires being positive and about four brown wires in the loom from the ecu
one problem was putting the wires through the buk head so after searching through the garage found a bit of tube that did the job.
For anyone considering the lc1... it's a cheap wideband controler for a reason, i've found it totaly unstabe have to reset and calibrate it everyday am going to use the defaults so that i dont have to set up the outputs all the time.
Have only run for a few miles to build a map but has raised a few probs already.
The turbo oil return pipe hasn't coped witht the heat and became brittle and split (wondered where all the smoke was comming from under the turbo).
so bought some more hose and used some leftover exhaust wrap then overkilled it with some aluminium tape.
Also the turbo ex housing was close to the master cylinder so knocked up a heat shield using some steel sheet and some heat barrier matt. (note to self either buy a bench shear or some good tin snips cutting metal using hammer chisel and a brick is not fun!)
a quick run through on how i'm geneating my fuel map.first to get a table generated.to do this i used the table generator wizzard this is in ve table 1.input values you expect ( i guessed) you may have to have a few goes at this to get ther torque accepted.this should generate a smooth table. So you've got a table but this cant be used to drive the car yet.
so to get a drivable map.
First get the car idleing correctly with the correct afr (about 14:1).
i ended up shifting the entire table so that the correct afr was obtained.
i then adjusted the no load areas of the map just reving in neutral and adjusting the values.
so now its time to drive the car to adjust the map. activate the data logger.
drive the car with very little load for a good 5-10 mins to generate a good datalog.
using megalog viewer open the data log
and open the msq for the car, then use the analyse table button. this use the data log to analyse the fuel values in the table with the logged afr readings.
if happy with the changes accept them and save the msq under a new name so you can go back if not happy.
drive the car agian checking your afr when happy reapeat higher up the load range a bit at a time.
My experience with the LC-1 is that it works very good. I have read about problems now though so it could be a bad batch from Innovate later on. Have you tried upgrading the firmware or checking with the dealer?
My LC-1 runs (or seems to run) a complete summer and only needs a new free-air calibration when I take the car out of storage.
You have quite high entries in the VE table, it suggests that either the injectors are on the small side or there is an error in the constants/settings. You can tune "around" it but as 255 is the max VE entry you have little space left, and you may need to work the table more if you swap injectors later on.

Gustaf
cheers Gustaf
Those values are just table i knocked up my table so far looks like this
the circled area is where i've updated the map.
As for the lc1, i've updated the firmware but it loses the settings for the outputs so will set them to defaults for the ecu and guage.
Had to adjust the speed of the sensor reading as it wouldn't give a stable reading.
Ah, I see, that looks much better.
It's really bad if Innovate has lost the dependability on the LC-1, as I said mine has been trouble free.
Gustaf
amazing, looks very tuneable, my aftermarket ECU does nothing like that.

Great update some really useful info
Just a quicky. Did the table generator get the map reasonable and then you have fine tuned the idle off that. I seem to to be just massively rich at the moment hence starting a map from scratch ?
Also the flow rate for my injectors is 200cc (standard pinto inj) what required fuel did you use as i assume your higher injector rate will have increased this using the req fuel calculator? Just so i can sanity check my figures
Cheers
Thats what i got
thanks
bit of an update
The afr sensor is working ok and seems to have settled down. have fitted a pinto alternator and am now getting 13+ volts at idle compared to the 11.9 volts with the old alternator think this could be the caurse of a few faults.
One problem of this is that i have to run the alternator upside down to fit under the turbo/ manifold and i is just touching the steering rack a longer belt will solve this soon enough.
have done a bit of wireing but nothing more than correcting earths and checking which wires go where so no pics.
continueing to correct the map very slowly as am stuggling to tell if i get amy detonation with the exhaust being so loud and fule pump and tappets doing there best to recreate that loverly desiel tappity sound.
Also made it to thorsby classic car show at the weekend with the capri club made it there and back but exhaust is blowing again
Excellent stuff You're doing a great job there ... and I think I'm even following most of it
Out for a drive on a sunny spring day reminds me why I got this car
cheers stu, comments alway apreciated.
Still mapping but starting to go higher in the rev range. have now calibrated the out put of the lc1 to the guage so i get a close representation of the mega squirt guage, if it's of use to anyone i'll post the setting up.
went for a nother datalogging drive today slowly going into the +boost area of the map all held together well. Even magaged to get a half decent pic or 2.
It looks very clean in these shots, trust me it isn't
Top job. The gauge install would be good as i am looking to fit one at some point.
stunning car
really like the wheels
thanks for all the comments
if someone want to run a afr guage ( i've got this attached is the instalation instructions i used) that would give a similar indication to the wideband value try programing with the following values:
1.099v @ 14.08 AFR
0.103v @ 15.02 AFR
This gives a very close representation of the AFR reading in Megatune so should show any problems in future.
i've currently got the other channel on the LC1 as 1-2v = 10-20 AFR

well no progress at all now.
The Lc1 has packed up and am talking to customer services, very quick responce so far.
was nice to drive it with all the trim in for a bit... oh well off wih the lower dash again, gives me an excuse to look into the tacho again.
No surprise I think mine has packed up but need to really look into it further. If you have a look around the innovate forum they seem to pack in for all number of reasons. The uego ones seem to be rated though
Well the lc1 has been replaced, took about 3 weeks though. wont get to install it for a while though.
well not much of an update on the crappa.
Due to having probs with my new 'ickle boy and thee mrs going into hospital early have not touched the capri since september.
was looking for a decent gearbox as i've no confidence in the type 9.
Then looking the other week looking for a t5 gearbox and ended up getting this...
it's a left hooker from europe that cant be registered in this country with some slight body work damage and a suspect gasket failure and allegedly had 260bhp which prob means its 200.
but am happy the whole car was a lot less than this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NISSAN-200SX-S13-CA18DET-TURBO-ENGINE-1988-TO-1994-VLM_W0QQitemZ160300355130QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item160300355130&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1299|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318
so is this going in the capri? not for a while as i break the nissan and check the engine over, so the capri will be sorted to get running again.
