I can't believe you're considering putting a nissan engine in it.

Gutted. The pinto is a pain, but once you've sussed all the niggles it will be a nice spectacle. MUCH MUCH stronger bottom end too.

I'm glad someone else likes the wheels....I had people telling me I was crazy when they were first put on the car. lol

I'm using the innovative LC1 for wideband signal and also use the wideband signal to run closed loop on the vi-pec ecu. I also have the xd16 meter from innovative.

    Works like a dream.

If you get trouble with the sensor you are probably overheating the sensor or chuffing it up with over rich mixture. xd16 is very handy since it lists error codes automatically, overheating etc.

    hi mate,

i have got the same idea for my Mk1 Capri, been thinking about it for a while. How much roughly has it cost you in total to do this? Looks properly done though and gotta say loving it. Is it worth doing do you think? And how much power did you managed to make out of it?

    Cheers

    Re: 2.0 capri turbo

Bloody hell thats along time since an update.

Well nothing happened yet doing a degree and full time job and having a kid who's been very i'll has taken time away.

Have started fitting the group4 rad and goingt to sort the exhaust manifold out so got two set of flanges made up one mild steel one stainless just got to decide what to do

Ant bought the car ready converted, but it's never run properly since bought i it. was getting there with the mapping and fixing the other faults but the LC1 packed up.

    on 6-8 psi i'd expect 160-180bhp but never dyno'd

There plenty on here about pinto turbos basicly you'll need:

    injection pump + filter
injection manifold with injectors and fule regulator (pressure release valve)
Exhaust manifold, cheapish to make expensive to buy
    turbo
oil feed and return for the turbo
intercooler, old cossy ones are cheap
    intercooler pipework,
ecu to run the engine, injection and ignition
with after market ecu's you'll also need the following sensors
    Air temperature
Exhaust oxygen gas sensor (lambda) will need to be wide band for high boost
water temp sensor, these are fitted to the injection inlet
not forgetting including additional wires, relays and hoses for addition fulelines etc.

Thats for a standard engine running low boost for high i'd say 2wd cossy pistons and rods plus a 205 block. some say cossy crank but Gustaf on here has got some very good results on a standard crank.
oh and a 2wd cossy oil pump and spray bar

You could get alot from scrap yards and pumps and filters are not that much. main problems i've had are old hoses and the increased heat along with a few instalation issues

wow an update in under a year! (just)
Well we had a young 'un who had some problems plus i've been studying past two years so not much time for plaing in the garage.

Anyway have started to fit the large ali rad and have made a custom shroud thing as the rad sits a bit forward.

At this point i would show a picture but the camea has not surfaced since the holiday

Right back to it after parking it up under blankets for quite a few years (nearly 10!)
    Things to sort:
Driver side front spring hanger needs welding.
Need to fit some decent brakes
Fit new radiator and sort plumbing out
    Fit egt sensor

Then think about starting it and let's go crazy and think I'll get to drive it one day.

    Re: 2.0 capri turbo

After being stood for some years i was expecting some issue, took the water pump and thermostat off and met with all sorts of horrors.

So after thinking the engine is scrapped i turned a bit to go on the pump so i could turn i with the drill this cleaned a lot of the crap out wit some engine flush and a few kettles of boiling water.

    Re: 2.0 capri turbo

So to get the crapi going i seem to be taking things off. Manifolds off, need to replace the core plugs so the head will be off soon.

Managed to get the corroded hose connector in the inlet manifold out

    New fitting drawn up
I did look at filling a yb/ pinto inlet

But i don't really like the look of it, couldn't find a fitting to go in the end of the fuel rail and it blocks access to the distributor (which i'd like to be able to get out so i can drive the oil pump with an old one) and the oil filter.

I bought a 2wd cosworth flywheel that had the dowel sheared off, after faffing for ages with the first one realised that if you drill them 5mm you can tap them and just drive them out. 1st one 20min next two 10mins.
Then faced up the flywheel there's about a thou (0.025mm) step where the hardened area is towards the middle, don't think it matters much but could always buy an off cut and turn it.

What's the recommended thickness for a yb flywheel? anyone know?

Hmmm pics still big, will work on that next time

flywheel thickness is of no real importance

I drive my oil pump after a long layup with a 6mm socket and cordless drill. Works a treat and also allows me to check the spray bar.

    Re: 2.0 capri turbo

Had a steady day at work and made the most of it.

Knocked up a jig to hopefully machine a big brake set up

Plus made a new fitting for the inlet. Think i'm going to make another and have more room for the hose and clamp to sit on.

    Re: 2.0 capri turbo

Back onto the actual problem, holes in the chassis.

Got underneath and cleaned up the offending area, some holes had been filled with underseal and or plated from inside.

The question is how to fix them? in know you can get repair sections but that means taking the axle off so what do you prop the car up on? i've seen people fix this on a rollover jig but that would mean emptying the car to make it light enough for a jig.

I don't think i can just plate over them, any ideas/ advice?

    Re: 2.0 capri turbo

So things have taken a bit of a turn. Was never truley happy with the engine and set, nothing wrong with it just never quiete running right and the engine needs a refresh.
So... i bought a 2.0 ecoboost engine.... and a north south kit from ford preformance (supprisingly cheap) i aslo wne to get the control pack to run it but between me ordering and the supplier getting it ford discontinued it son looking at options.

So with a plan to get the engine out i went to get the ecu loom out in as much as one as i can and found a hole under the wing/ a pillar/ bulk head.
Bit gutted as that means wings off and they are good wings and dont want to ruin them so softly does it may be the approach.

In some ways am down as found some more rust in others its the excuse to get the car sorted and replace some floor pannels.

Got a plan for ecu, flywheel, clutch (though not hydroulic clutch yet) and gear box. I need a plan for a decent axle and some additional bracing for it.
Who dose atlas axle that can take a boat load of torque? with a mild remap it could be close to 380- 400nm.

    Re: 2.0 capri turbo

Interesting plan, I had a loooong look at the EcoBoost packages from Ford Racing at SEMA last year. Over at Grassroots Motorsports forum there is a guy putting an EcoBoost into a TVR, he has been working with Ford Racing regarding the discontinued control packs. Might be worth a look.

I would suspect that a Quaife diff and axles would work pretty well with that torque but it won't be a cheap Atlas.

Might be worth considering a Ford 8.8 straight away instead.
