    Advice fitting english axle

    Hi guys first post,

I have a South African imported mk1 escort that i am currently getting up to scratch to get mot and registered. It currently has a borg warner axle with rear disc conversion but the calipers dont allow for a handbrake.

My plan is to replace with an english axle but most that i see on ebay etc are from mk2 with the wider spring saddles, do these fit or will they need new saddles welded on.

    Thanks
    Stephen

The saddles are easily narrowed with a bit of 5mm steel either side so retaining the Mk1 50mm springs.

No need to narrow MK2 spring saddles, everything should bolt up fine although you might need the wider bottom U bolt plate.. Just make sure the centre bolt on the spring or lowering blocks fits correctly into the saddles for accurate location.
