Hello mates. As stated in title, to use in Pinto engine with big valves and twin 45 horizontal webers, which cam will offer better results: Kent KC-FR1 or Piper BP-285 ? RPM range 1500 - 6000. Occasionally 6500
Thanks for your kind advices

KC FR1 is VERY old, do they still produce this cam? No idea how the profile looks like. BP 285 is a good fast road profile, can't say it's better as FR1 (because I never measured this) but for sure better as he later FR31.
Hello Eduardo,
as Dirk said the FR1 is an old cam, timing is 40/80 80/40 lift 10.4 mm.
Same (almost) as the Burton BLF32.33 which was used back in the day on a relatively std Pinto with twin 40's.
The Piper BP285 is a 270/290 degree cam with lots more lift 11.8 mm.
Think the BP285 will be much better.
I think I started live in car world when RL21 was a top or favorite rally-cross cam. RL1 was available. No idea how it did look like. I did tried different cams those days and one camshaft, grind at CatCams (PIPER Belgium those years) called a 312° (really no idea what it exact was) went like hell compared with all others. I did measured all cams the "classic" way but papers must been long lost.
I could overlay my profiles ones plotted with ink on "chalk paper". Man, where we modern people !!!!!
Anyway, if the lift is 10,4mm it's past his age. Go for the Piper BP285.
I cannot comment about the KC-FR1, but I have the Piper BP-285 in my Pinto and it works very well (twin webers, ported head, bigger valves).
Hi mates, thanks for your kind advices. BP-285 is what I guess I will use. But happens that find another one in my shelf, think its a Newman. The chaaracteristics are:
FORP/275/474 PH 4
What about this last one ? Let me have your kind advices about it too
Thanks and wait your kind news
Eduardo
I was about to order the PH4 from Newman but because I did not received back any emails I finally ordered BP285 again. So can not judge but I do believe they must come close. At least a lot closer as the RL1.
BTW, you can try endless camshafts but sometimes it best to stick with what was working for others.

Thanks Leon,
Wish you could keep an eye on my whole day hahaha. That's result of answering zillion of emails and same time doing a double job.
I bought my first camshaft in 1987 and that time they where indeed Piper Europe. Later CatCams, than Crane Cams and back CatCams. I can not remember when they started to work for Crane, nor do I exact remember when they turned back into CatCams but I believe it was round the time Crane went over. Also don't know they started Piper Europe or had a different company name first.
Thanks Miniliteman and Onid for your kind and valuable advices, I appreciate them very much. BP-285 will be the one I will use.
Nevertheless, I have a Pinto 1600 cc head, and I will probably fit the Newman cam one on it.
Thanks again mates
Cheers
Eduardo
