    Help with an ATB LSD

I've just hade an Eaton 'Truetrac' ATB fitted by a transmission specialist. The ATB unit is brand new, and the specialist look like they know what they are doing, so I would have thought all is OK.

However, with the axle on my work bench, and no load applied to either wheel, I can turn one wheel and the wheel on the other side spins in the same direction. Is this right?

I thought that an ATB should work like an open diff until there's a load on one or other side.

If I chock the propshaft flange (so it cannot spin) and try to spin either of the wheels they are locked in place (I hope that makes sense).

Maybe, this is just because its all new and not filled with oil yet? Or maybe this is how its supposed to work? I hope someone can tell me if this is right or wrong

    Wow - that's a relief. I thought I might have got a dud one.

I have an Quaife ATB fitted to my Escort as well, and on that the rear wheel spins the other way. That's what got me worried.

i dont think they always had preload, so one without would appear open
