When I saw 42 DCOE I though that must be a typo then found they were std on Triumph 6's and quite rare! Every day's a skool day!
Graham - wouldn't they perform similarly if used with similar choke sizes or would the choking down on the 45's result in better gas speed?

yes and no, if the engine is really good then the butterfly can still be a restriction to airflow even with big chokes, spee might be important, but ultimately poor speed just means bigger jets,
my mate used to have an 1600x/f used to give max power on 50mm sidedrafts, it could of come a long long way down on carb and choke size and given almost as much power, its like a lot of full race bmw m10s use 48's with 42mm chokes, they would probably only give 5bhp less on 45's and 38chokes, but if you looking for the max.........
