anyway, made a start the weekend for a change. yes it was cold & wet at times

    before

i slit it to the inner scribe so i had an edge to fold over for a bit of strength

i managed to cut the bottom panel out too & rid it of a bit of rust at the same time. also had to move the leccy fan forward which is now very tight & moved it across to one side just incase i ever have to run an oil cooler in there at some stage. & yes, it does need some paint when i get some it's been worm poisoned though as i did have some of that

The one you had and the rs one should be no different bar the brackets being 180 deg out and the angled top outlet. I would be chopping the brackets mate before i paid big bucks for a s/h rs rad that needs recoring!

std speedo cable is fine mate although it will be MILES out.

I also used a cortina clutch cable as it was a little longer and clears the ex manifold better

Re: A little something for the weekend....

so... managed a weekend on the car again!!! not a great deal of pics tbh

    friday evening

modified x-flow sandwich plate thing with standard one underneath

strengthener under the tunnel that has to be cut out.

    cut out marked

this shows how much of the strengthener needs to be removed. i did weld a horizontal plate from the strenthener to the tunnel top on the right hand side of this pic.

had to take the box back out as it doesn't clear the original mounts so chopped them out. i then replaced the box bolted the x-member, spacers & brackets up, jacked the box up into position & tacked the brackets in place. then removed all the x-member & welded, treated, painted etc.

i decided to raise the gearlever hole so had to make something up. didn't really have a plan just made it as i went along

does the job anyway & most of it is between the seats anyway

test drive sunday night to the takeaway seemed ok, but i think the prop might need balancing tbh

don't know what all this crap is that's been said about the type 9 having shite ratio's doesn't seem much different to the 4 speed in all honesty. though i don't know how fast i'm going as it doesn't currently have a speedo

    nice work mate.

i always thought the ratios where the same apart from 5th being an overdrive?

Re: A little something for the weekend....

    thanks mike

got a bad vibration running through the car though, starts about 40ish i reckon as still no speedo speedo cable is on order btw

it's got a different clutch plate, gearbox & rs prop so i'm guessing it's got to be the prop that's out of balance. it's booked into be done on saturday morning - £40.

Re: A little something for the weekend....

ive just fitted a type9 and pinto into my mk2 but mine is nowhere near as neat as yours where the gearstick hole is! just aswell its all hidden under the centre console.
are mk1 shells different around the gearbox tunnel than mk2s?
its just i used the blocks from gs escorts to mount it and they fitted fine . i did have to try and bash the mounts back a bit just to give extra clearance but havent driven it yet so just hoping it isnt going to catch and vibrate anywhere.

They should be the same as they use the same or similar floorpan

Its always said if fitting a t9 and keeping the existing mounts in place then you will need to jack them apart to get clearance around the box

    kev

i know that now dave i thought they were left alone as the gs escort type blocks/mounts fitted to them though anyway, i'm glad i done it the way i did that's what counts

the prop is booked in for first thing saturday morning & might make up a bracket/support to go under the prop from the old centre mount bolts while it's up in the air again

Re: A little something for the weekend....

well the prop didn't get balanced..... it was fooked & they wanted an extortionate amount to make one so i phoned neil & had one next day delivery

...yeah i know.... this was about 6 months ago

anyway, with the box in & prop sorted early may bank holiday the pinto got fitted in over the weekend - just had to wait a few days for a high torque starter for it as an rs one just wouldn't cut it i've also now modded a new rad & so denzil has his loaned rs one back

i spent this saturday doing this.....

yeah it's nothing special but the missus passed it onto me when she bought the zafira begining of the year as it wasn't worth selling it in all honesty [touchwood] with the exception of a coilpack it's been sweet in over 5 years all year it's spent most of it's time just sat on the road outside with a tank of fuel lasting about 2 months with how little it's been used

oh.... but the mot's out on the mk1 in a months time.....
