so then i took the inner sill in one hand & the replacement one in the other....... drilled one for spot/plug welding!!
& cut them both so somewhere along the line they joined together
i left the outer sill on at this point
top stuff again lee well done m8,make some of those sexy crossmembers like gary did for paul alex's mk2 for it as well for a couple of extingushers(sp).great work tho m8 on the drive
cheers bud
will get more pics of progress sorted out later on hopefully
cut out a section that had a few pin holes under the seat crossmember & made a new piece up for there. treated on the underside.....
......& tacked in place
cut & rolled this piece to fit along the middle of the inner sill under where the seat crossmember sits as it's obviously 'missing' on the repair panels
tacked in place
Nicely done again bud soon be ragging it about again...
cheers matey slowly but steady does it
bashed this piece out
then split, tidied, saved, treated & bashed it to sit nicely on the new inner sill
I have a feeling you are starting to enjoy your self lee Shes defo taking shape keep up the good work bud
dunno about 'enjoy myself' sometimes there's other things i'd rather be doing but while i got the interest i figure it's best to keep knocking away at it
put a couple of tacks from the new inner sill to the remainder of the floorpan
welded a brace across from a bit of small angle [that IS small for what we do in work ] then marked where i decided to cut out & drill the spots out
chopped the bottom of the wing off to take a look at what's underneath. there was the usual bodges & seam sealer in there so this is what's left.
put a few tacks along the inner sill for now after a bit of pressing & bashing once again.
i'm not sure what to do about where the outer sill joins up at the bottom of the 'a' post as although the metal has brushed up nice & shiny i'm not convinced it will weld too good
i got to get the door off first anyway so hence me moving my attention to the floorpan
Really nice metalwork there!
I'm really appreciating your detailed updates Ratters. I'm probably 12 months away from all this kind of work, but while I'm waiting I'm gaining knowledge from threads like these. Thanks.
Keep at it Lee, is she going to be ready for some shows this year. ?
Just spent a few hours reading through this thread from start to finish.
Good job Ratters nice to see the rust hasn't got the better of you mate
thanks for the reply's guys
not really done anything this last week or so i'm afraid but should hopefully have some updates later on
i was hoping it would be andy.... but not so sure now
get it done.. even if its a primer slag... drive at weekends, weld thru week.. keep at it matey, looks really good..
well, i've still got to sort out where the front of the floorpan/inner sill meets the lower bulkhead section on the horizontal join... not done anything there yet as not decided how to do it or really thought about it tbh
old floor.....
half a floor.....
no floor.....
new floor
treated the bit of rail i could get at
need to get myself some decent thinners now to get the standard black paint off the new panels
anyone know what's easy to get hold of that will do a decent job of it?
Good on yer Son
Simon
top work again lee m8,very well done m8y
Really impressed with the standard of your work mate, had a nose around your car at coombe a couple of times and I never realised she needed so much work.
Starting to look really solid now, keep it up!!
Still at it If you need any more pics lee i can shove em in the testing sectionKeep at it bud soon be able to take her out with ya on your photo days out ,and i might join ya if i pull me finger out and get an mot on mine lol
You lieer you told me you hadn't touched it lol.
Nice job matey I'll try getting you some thinners if you need some bud.
Yeah, get that crap off as soon as possible, it is horrible stuff. Much easier to strip using paint stripper, weld it and then a quick lick over with a rattle can of primer. If you leave it until after welding it is a PITAneed to get myself some decent thinners now to get the standard black paint off the new panels
www.gulfpetrolheads.com
surely they cant be much rust left na mate!? looking cracking na...
right then... update pics time
i managed to get the floor all tacked in place
& it sat on the chassis a lot better than the other side did when i done that
the weekend after i decided to spend a few hours welding
& then treated the welds/bare areas
these are now ground down just a little bit to my standards & re-treated again as i still haven't any strong thinners to get the primer off with
^^^this lot is about 3 maybe 4 weeks ago now
spent a few hours last weekend sorting the front of the pan/bulkhead bit but any other pics are still on the camera somewhere
looks good and strong now bud
if it aint broke, break it!
keep it up mate... be pod before u know it...
looking good, nice welds
good progress i used some universal thinner this week and it wouldnt touch that black stuff
she will hold water well now bud ,if ya screen starts leaking LOOKS LOVELY
cheers boys i have really lost interest again the past month or so, mainly been concentrating on photography more than the escort - got a photo in an exhibition at the moment this week!! hopefully start again on it soon though i've a busy weekend!!
i got a bit here with acetone in it & that works but i pinched it off the old man but there ain't much left
haven't drilled drainage holes yet phil
right last weekend i managed an hour or two & managed to get these buggers out
managed to get this corner welded/cleaned
& sorted the little patch at the front of the pan/bulkhead join
i got photo's from combe yesterday to sort through & todays progress on the escort once the kids are in bed & i can sit here in piece with a beer
metalworks looking great... i really admire you doing all this on the drive.. ive done a few plates in a capri floor, and fuck its hard on the garden.. keep up the good work mate..
some tidy welding going on there mate
Did that thinners do the job matey???
better than what i had thanks trig still a bugger to get off though & i still owe you an ice cream or a beer at the hotrods
anyway, door off allowed me to get the outer sill off complete
this is the result of having sills replaced at a professional bodyshop
off!!
& seat crossmember tacked in to hold the inner sill in position
i did put half the jacking point support back in for what it's worth
