cheers for that link phil
still undecided whether to repair or replace though
got the wing off now so will get better pics up later on for your opinions please
well here's a quick pic of what's left of the a post with the wing off. the actual post with the hinges on is solid just surface rust on there.
& this is with the splash panel wire brushed up
i'm guessing if i replace the a post cover piece then i may aswell do the splash panel aswell
You don't have to, but I think I would replace the splash panel if I were you - they're not all that expensive IIRC

i think from the enquiry from hadrians the splash panels were about £18 plus vat each so the cost of them isn't an issue.
the longer i think about it, the more i might replace the lot instead of repairing.
if in dout cut it out best get rid in long run
nothing unexpected there then
had some repair on the top of the upright there but everything below both sides seem uk - might still get the verticals though & just use what i need from them
mojo boost
does anyone know if the replacement 'a' post section comes down as far as where it meets the front of the outer sill?
From memory the Hadrian A post skins come down as far as where the sill flares out from the step section, if you see what I mean?

so what's your valued opinions.......??
full length expressed strut tops?
I think i'd go for the full top, not used them myself but seen some threads where people have and made a cracking job of it.
This is always what happens when you start pulling wings off these cars and has done for as many years as i've had them.
Good job so far, at least you know the car will be solid when done.
Yeah bud go for the full top plate be a neater job at the end
buy one of mine put your running gear init for some summer fun
If you don't have the cash but do have patience, then go for the Hadrian drip rails and fabricate the rest - you've got the skills for that from what I've seen. The inner wing tops are mostly flat anyway so not hard to do.
I'd agree with Alan G, emailing ex-pressed is a waste of time, ring them. Last time I spoke to them they were running with 3 months lead time, so unless they've got some made up in stock you're in for a long wait!

that's what i'm deciding on bud i've got drip rails & i've got the standard strut top panels & i was just going to use what i got. it needs doing right from the bulkhead to the strut top & the front where it meets the slam has been fixed before because i done that bit
what pissed me off was in the pic you can see where the first replacement has been fitted full size!! right down to the bottom left of the pic... why?
well... i had an e-mail back from expressed the following evening
£310 or something for the pair
anyway, this is the state of the strut tops with a very quick poke about
think i'm going to take the bonnet hinges off the bulkhead next as may aswell try to do it properly
& i'm also fairly certain that the whole front end is a skim of filler
so in between taking & picking the kids up from school today i made a start on the a post while i think about the other bits
looks like my estate front panel!!!
keep it up kidda...
top work again fella, where are the pictures then of the a-post
on the camera pig
managed to cut off what needed then cleaned/treated it & have got as far as trying a template for fitting & it's not a bad fit really
just need to copy it & cut it out of metal now which hopefully will be tomoz as off work on school run duties
cant you get away with just using the normal top repair sections?
yea, there not too bad, i fitted them to the estate, and once you hammer and dolly the press marks out, there quite good... cheap too.... which is always a bonus...
Turned out to be quite some weekend, huh?
Simon
well this was the a post after getting the wings off
had a good poke about & cut/chiseled out any offending bits
cleaned up the hinge post & then gave it a few coats of treatment & tacked it top/bottom to keep it in place for when the door went back on

At lest the inner a post looks good bud
now pull your finger out and get on lol
paper - cardboard - steel
not the easiest to cut out but it saved me about £45 on a repair panel
