Wing mirror positioning on a mk1

To those that have fitted wing mirrors to a mk1 - did you decide to fit the mirrors in the exact same position on each door, so that they look the same on both sides of the car? Or, did you position them so that the passenger side one can be seen better?

Just trying to get an idea of where to fit my wingard-style mirrors. Holding one in place on the passenger side to match the drivers side position and it's virtually useless. It looks like it really needs to be 4" back from where the drivers side one will be mounted to be viewable.

    Both mirrors are fitted symetmetrically?

(And a quick note: wing mirrors are fitted to wings and door mirrors are fitted to doors)

Fit them where you can see them easily. No point in fitting door mirrors otherwise. It's not a fashion parade.

So I ended up fitting them symmetrically, positioned so that the passenger side one is useable as well - they're maybe a little higher and further back than normal because of that. Fortunately these have got quite a bit of adjustment on the glass compared to bullet mirrors, so they work quite well:

Yeah, getting there now! I think if we can get the last few problems with the engine sorted we'll be ready to fit the bonnet and probably get it taken for an MOT in a couple of weeks.
