Does the Zetec SE engine block have the same bell housing bolt pattern as the Duratec HE?
As the SE is MZI in Mazdas could I use Mazda MX5 / Miata gearbox with the SE?

I don't want to start new thread so i will ask here.
Does anyone have information about dimmensions of piston compression height, deck height, conrod lenght for Zetec SE family? (1.25, 1.4, 1.6, 1.7)
Have not really been interrested in the other Zetec SE's
But heres something I got.
1.7
Bore 80mm
Stroke 83.5mm
Compression ratio: 10,3:1
1.25
Bore: 71.9mm
Stroke 76.5mm
Compression ratio 10:1
1.4
Bore 76mm
stroke 76.5mm
compression ratio 10,3:1 later focus 1.4 models had 11:1
To add to the 1.6 Zetec SE I noticed It has the highest compression ratio of the Zetec SE family standing at 11:1 .

What is the compression ratio you would like to have?
If you will use stock 100 hp astra rods and pistons your new CR would be 7.8:1
Good CR for a stage2 turbo application.
Astra rods big-end radius diameter is more narrow vs SE. So you'll need some machine job for using n SE.
connecting rod big-end diameters:
Astra : 46.4mm
Focus : 46.9mm
You can find forged rod and piston set for astra. Wiseco end Woessner producing forged internals for astra

Posted some engine build pics in the my competition car section if someone is interreted in Zetec Se builds.
If anybody wants to hear what a Shawspeed 1600 zetec SE sounds like from in car....here is footage from our Darrian last week...........you can see the rev counter.

Loving this engine!
hey there roadie no prediction.. engine should be in production by june/july 2010. its been put back a few months. only problem i can see is fuel surply as the ecoboost uses fuel at 2500psi.
cheers terry
^^^ is it GDI then?
crank and rods should be the same as a sigma as this engine is only a upgrade of the sigma. just a bit stronger. so with luck most of the parts will be interchangeable!!! dut dont take my word for it...
cheers terry
Installed a Zetec SE to my Escort yesterday.
So now I know it can be done without any dramatic changes to body work. The engine needs to be Dry Sumped tough to clear OE steering rack. And youll need the RWD water outlet to not hit the bulkhead. Still comes very close even with the RWD outlet.
Some pics in the bottom of the build page:

Hi, Im sorry to hijack thios thread a bit but this is a brilliant pic, can anyone tell me which is the tensioner for the auxillary belt please?
you only ned to do the one mount, o/s engine mount, and its not hard if you really wanted to you would just plate the area where it mounts to to add strength, far better than old ohv engine, you can see 150bhp on standard internals no probs
So which mounts were on yours mate? Fiesta or Ka? I assume you mean that the only one needing specialist work was the Driver's side one?
I also plan on installing one of the 1400s into a Rally KA...
Do you have any better/close up pic's of your mount ?
Cheers , Garry
Hi ive stripped my 1600se engine down for inspection and from what i can see there is very slight marks on the crank.its very slight pitting mark but ever so slight, its not a deep gouge or anything.would i need to get the crank reground?would i be ok with new shellls
Can you get pics?
If the marking is slight then you'll probably get away with a light polish (400 grit emery paper and oil) and new shells, though of course you should always check the bearing clearances with plastigague.

can the zetec se cranks be reground?i heard it wasnt possible.
Anything can be reground, it depends on whether you can get undersize shells to suit.

Thanks for the reply.if the scoring was only light would i get away with just fitting new shells?
You'd have to measure the bearing clearances with Plastigauge and check to see if they're still within tolerance.

Anyone have any info on the Raceline Sigma-R engines? The web site is not all that informative.
Hi GoodFella. Good engine! I think that it is really good to have that Ztec engine. How much did it cost you with that engine?
,,,is there not much happening with the zetec se engine just now ? it all seems to have gone quiet . Its been interesting following the builds etc .
I've got more interested in fitting my 1400 se to my rally Ka again . It seems that Scholar are building some now as well .
Not much in the way of exhaust manifolds though ,,they all seem to big bore spec to suit a s1600 type engine ,,I really don't want to lose torque .
This thread has been quite still for a while now. But I believe it's only quiet on the forums and not in the garages. I just got my SE done and had my race debut with it. And I know of a few Zetec SE builds taking place. I have one race left this season and then its on to EVO 2 with the engine.
any good race engine always has the new evo in mind, im planning evo3 version of my race engine even though i havnt built evo 2 yet
Graham is absolutely right. There's always something that can be done to further improve the engine. I too have a evo 3 or 4 in my day dreams. Just don't want to rush and buy all that expensive hipo hardware untill I'm sure I need it.
I'm not absolutely sure what needs to be done. So I need one more RR session to try a run completely without the air box, one with the retarded inlet timing and one with the longer trumpets. And I will try if a smooth air duct to the air box would be beneficial. With the info gathered from the RR the evo two will propably see some port work, new exhaust manifold. Engien re-positioning alternator re-posioniting ... etc....etc....so many ideas and so little time....the next season is alway too quickly at hand.
I also would love a lower than 5.13 ratio but it remains to bee seen can I get one. I have two ways of tackling this problem. The other is swappinf to Atlas axle but it costs like H*ll to do a Group 4 conversion to one.
