    3D printed pinto inlet ports

    Hi guys,

    Firstly I would like to say what a great forum this is and how much information is up here. I am still reading backwards and trying to catch up.

    I thought I would introduce my humble pinto powered mk2 escort build.
    I use it for local tarmac club events (hillclimbs and track etc).
    Very low budget build but it means I get to do all of the learning and work myself, and redoing it when I get it wrong.

    I am currently working on getting a bit more out of my engine which currently puts out a "massive" 115bhp at the rear wheels (if you believe dyno's....).
    This is with;
    205 block, standard balance bottom end.
    big valve head with home port job following Vizards drawing.
    Isky 465 cam which I think is my biggest issue (see the bottom for more cam spec info).
    CR of 11:1, from doing a bit more reading I plan to reduce this to 10.5:1 for cast pistons.
    (I do not fully understand why so if someone can explain that would be great, dynamic CR and RPM are within normal limits and there is not det).
    I am running a link ecu and Toyota 4age 20v (silver top) individual throttle bodies.
    Home made extractors.

    I have just purchased a GTS1 cam and am hopping that this will see me some improvement over the isky cam (any experts out there agree or otherwise?).
    While I have the head off I plan to have a look at the ports again.

    This brings me to my observation/question.
    Do you think it is possible to flow test a 3D printed inlet port?
    I have drawn up the Vizard port and already made 1 print.
    The original plan was just to use it as a better visual guide to get my ports better.
    But it dawned on me, perhaps I should build a flow bench (I see there is some great tips on this site to do that) and 3D print a bunch of different profiles.
    I could even stick the head in the 4axis mill at work and machine out the best shape once I know what it was.
    If I printed the valve separate I could easily enough test a different heights.
    Has anyone done this or think it might work?

    IN open 34, closes 86
    EX open 93, closes 27
    0.478 valve lift.
    dur 300
    3000-7000rpm

    It seams to me the exhaust opens very early compared to other profiles.
    Fingers crossed the GTS1 is a better cam.

    welcome.. very nice car...i like the idea of testing a printed inlet port..especialy if you could transfer the imformation to a cnc mill...could try many shapes...cheers mark

    Yea. I am sure i am not the first to think it. At this stage i am probably staying with a removal only port so my options are some what limited. If i had filler or was doing a raised port it would definitely be useful I think.
