    Project BUNK up

Ok some of you may have seen in a previous thread the car i was given by terry (panelbasher)
Well i picked it up yesterday and its now sitting happy on my drive (much to the disgust of the escort )
I'm hoping this wont be as mamoth project as the escort and first impressions look good

Anyway here's the story so far..........................

    The collection.................

Deffinatly in need of a bit of a clean

    Some passing chav

Anyway yesterday at daves we put a battery on and tried to start the car. It turned over..........It sparked..............And it stank of stale petrol and most of the fuel hoses had perished
So i thought while it was still on the trailor i would remove the fuel tank and give it a good flush

You know when you get a good feeling about a car? This car has that feeling. Everything we have tried so far has worked and everything we have took apart has come apart with out a problem And on top of that everywhere i look its minty mint

    Panhard rod as standard

Pushing it was a knightmare so i little bit of pressure in the tyres didnt go a miss All the brakes work fine which is cool for a car that has been stood up for 6 years.

My 2 helpers for the weekend.

    The power plant...................

    And a snail nest

With a battery on everything works.............

Including the radio i found in the foot well.........

    Before...............

    After

And now i've got somewhere to keep my bucket seats out of my escort

    mmmmmm comfie

    Chav alert!!!!!!!!

And now for something that im proberly going to get hung for

15's on a south london manta

Sorry terry and daughter i couldnt resist they wont be staying

Anyway plans for this car are to keep it as standard as possable and get it to a state where its a reliable retro car to hack around in. With room for the kids.
I need to change the fuel lines and get a couple of tyres and i reckon that will be that. The gearbox may be a bit dodgy but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Its not going to get in the way of the escort but is something to tinker on while i save for the remaining parts i need for the escort.

And a big thank you to terry and daughter for trusting me with the future of there manta.

Have to say that for a car that was given away you cant get much better than this(unless its an escort).it really is quite a minter AND all of the electrics workyouve had a result there dude.

Nice to meet you Terry and daughter.
now get back out there Matt and clean the otherside

Oi you slag, im no chav

Anyways thats come up spanking, looks like a new car in the first pic

Have you removed the snail camp yet??

And the 15's look ok, bearing in mind it came with 14's i dont think its too wild to fit 15's for general use and have good tyre choice (terry dont kill me )

I want it started by the end of the week

Also did you get the springs on????

    Re: Project BUNK up

    Chav/pikey same differance
Snails are still in situ and it might run if i get the chance to get some fuel line.
Pretty much all of the rubber hose has had it
And as for the escort springs i need to get my sierra bushes in the front eyes before i fit them so thought i might as well spend the day buffin instead

Good lad And pikey....im not the one with the transit and trailer in sarf london yesterday

Probably a good thing that the hose is fucked though as it could have been a bit of a hot end had the bit in the bay been ok and somewhere under the car splitting when you get it on the road

    Re: Project BUNK up

Cool, box wont be a problem if it does let go Matt, there are plenty of them about

As for springs you want Minimum 400lbs front springs, 220lbs rear, can go up to 700lbs fronts for tarmac rally spec

Escort springs wont be any good at all up front, 190`s might be ok out back, remember these have proper suspension, double wishbones and coils up front, 3 link + panhard out back with a torque tube for loads of Anti-squat

Look for South Yorkshire springs they will do you 4 coils, any rate, any length for about £100 delivered

Brake upgrade is easy with 2.0l vectra calipers, and audi discs - gives you 256mm vented discs and much better calipers for less than £100

Mantas are lovely, very driftable too even in standard form

You`ll be looking out for a Cheap 2.4L frontera before you know it

When your Escort is finished if you want to sell the Manta let me know, there are 3 Mantas that come to our MK meet and the drivers are mad about them. One of the guys owns 8.

    Re: Project BUNK up

Right o got home early so i thought i'd have a play with my projects

Old fuel lines stripped out (and that would be my 3 year old sons hands)like father like son i guess

The new pip[e broodmore sent me was a bit tight so out with the hot water.
I used a thermos cup to save keep walking back to the kitchen Should make for an interesting cup of tea in the morning

    And fitted in place
I just need some more jubilee clips.

This is the stuff that came out of the tank and it dont evaporate either

And this sludge came with it so i did right taking the tank out

Perished pipes replaced on fuel tank.
I've never known a tank with so many pipes

Anyway need to replace the cotton reels that holds the fuel pump and get some bigger hose for the pump and the filter and i can re fit it all and hopefully start the old girl up
