    Tips When Building Race Car

    Hey Guys

I'm in the process of building a Zakspeed replica and I'm just curious on any tips you guys have for things that you recommend I build into the shell at this stage

What have you done or wish you'd done when building your cars. I.e. Roll cage design, switch placement etc..

    More pics the better

Here's my car as it stands now

    Cheers

    Matt

    Dont!
    Buy an already finished one.
Pay someone to do it for you!
    But seriously,
Plan, plan, plan until you dream it then plan some more. Know what you want to do with the car within your budget! Be honest and conservative, especially with money and time. Dont have a baby, renovate a house, build two other cars and move across the globe at the same time!
Dont cheap out as you will have to do it again.
Better to save and wait than pull it apart in the near future.
Dont listen to the internet, its wrong too many times.

https://www.msauk.org/assets/blueboo...tevlow-res.pdf - read it, then read it again and then read it again so you understand what is required for the events you plan to do and follow it to the letter or run possibility of rejection at scrutineering!

you wouldnt believe how many times scrutineers find something non compliant even on a car thats been scrutineered many many times, i did yesterday, this particular car must of been scrutineered 300 times yet yesterday i saw something wrong which was actually plain for all to see, but no body had before. As it happened i just advised the competitor to do something with it for the future

Make sure your 100% happy with your driving position before welding. I know it seems a bone thing to suggest but I'm still struggling with mine after 5yrs and its going to be a major job for me to be happy with it.
As you've asked......as I was'nt going to say anything on your build thread as youve already done it. I think you should have built bigger tubs to start with, if in 2-3yrs time you want to change to bigger wheels it's going to be a big job to do it. I'd do it now while the cars in bits

Yes, it's being built with rule book in hand by a guy who has lots of experience. I sat in the seat to get the right position for about 45 mins to ensure all is good and we built it so there is still a bit adjustment to finetune the steering wheel and heights etc..

The tubs hadn't been done in those pics but they have been now. I'll be running 15x10" rears and 15x9's up front so we should be fine but time will tell.

What are some things you guys wished you had done or will do next time?

    Thanks for the replies

    Matt

went to see this beast in testing or shake down, runs a 1800 BDG ,revs to 9-10k absolutely howls, There was three of these cars made, everything seems to have had weight taken out even the lowering blocks Yes lowering blocks had large holes put through them, where ever they could punch a hole or drill one in the car it was done . been looking for pics i took but god knows where i put them.
