    seria and capri 28i bhp

Is it the ecu that makes the sierra bhp difference between the capri v6, as it is the same engine as the xr4i or was it the exhaust and gearbox

was it then bored out for the 4x4 to 2.9?

(if you believe fords quoted figures) its the exhaust on the capri that liberates a few more horses, but they never seem to make the 150 in the sierra or the 160bhp in the capri they are sposed to.
The 2.9 has lots of small differences, the main one is the 3 port heads, its a much better engine.

the early granny/sierra 4x4's were 2.8, the later ones were 2.9, as were the later 2wd grannies.

But with the cheapness of the 24v 2.9 theres no reason to fit either of the others any more, they are slower, use more juice and cost the same to insure if fitted into anything.

It wont be ECUs, they dont have any! Its mechanic fuel injection, not electronic.

Ford said 160 for the capri because of marketing, it wouldnt look great if it had the same power as the familiy saloon. Realisticaly both cars were about 145, the engines and gearboxs are identical.

The 2.9 is a newer version of the same engine, but has EFI. And they quoted 150bhp for this engine too. No increase in power you might think. Well its actually ford just being more realistic about this engine, but the main improvement is in the torque, loads of it, same peak torque as an essex 3.0.

I have a 2.9 in my capri by the way. Ill let you know when ive had it on the rolling road.

The standard XR4i system is a pack of sh*t and so badly made it cant have helped. The XR4i also has a different igntion module that gives a flatter torque curve to go with the XR4i different gearing.
