Were you using the correct formers in the tube?

Most benders you get (cheep ones off ebay etc) only have pipe dies. The difference is pipe is measured on an ID tube is on an OD. You said before you had 42mm OD tube, standard pipe formers are 1.5", 1.75", and 2" which arent usually right for the tube. They tend to crush if to too small of kink if too big. Packing with sand doesnt really help unless its really packed in and you weld a cover on both ends. Ive only really seen it done where you then heat the tube to bend.

If you can get propper sized pipe dies (not cheap) then it will bend ok but will neck in a fair bit too. Have you spoken to any of the cage builder companies (custom cages, robinson race cars etc) and seen if you can get them to bend your tube? It'll cost a bit less than buying new as there isnt a material cost.

Custom cages also now sell basic cage kits relatively cheap with just the front and rear hoops etc.

    Good work.

Bit more done made some intercooler brackets up to hold the front end together and made the bonnet fit a bit better.
My 4 packs of sliding bonnet pins have come in the post too so i can get the pins in now. The front end is starting to take shape!
One problem i need a cage BAD! the next bit is sorting the interia out and i can get it sprayed till theres a cage in there anyone got one? i will pay good money for one PLEASE WITH SUGUR ON TOP .

Rollcentre racing do a weld in kit for the mk1/2 ... which is probably better for you as you can pick up on the suspension loads .. Give Stuart (+44(0)1480 464052) a call and have a chat with him, tell him i've put you in touch and he may sugest having the bent tubes and then some lengths of tubing to make it fit where you need it.

    Re: Mk1 Fiesta RWD Cosworth

My Cage from Ecosse terned up today thanks again mate
Its a bit rough and its seen some crazy welding but there is a proper cage in there somewhere!!
As soon as i unrapped it, i sent it off to the shot blasters to have all the rust and shit took of it. Iv got to pick it up tomorrow at 11:30 so it will give me all weekend and the bank holiday monday to cut the bad bits out and re-do the diagonals then fit it :cool!:
I made some roll cage stiffeners in works time today they turned out alright, alot cheeper then buying them anyway! and i get payed for it lol.
Also i phoned smith and deckon fiberglass too i managed to get a boot lid with internals for 100. The hinge points where in the wrong place and somone sent it back, im bonnet pinning it on so im not bothered about hinge points it should be here wednesday.

not sure why the bottom ones are small?

    Re: Mk1 Fiesta RWD Cosworth

Well i cut the cage up to get the bends out of it and with a bit of messing aroung with the welder later the main bit of the cage is in. just gotta do the door bars and the strengthening plates now.
I need some uj's to mount the steering colume and i need to sort the rear floor out and make it look abit better.
so if i get my arse in gear and prep it the thing can be sprayed!!!!!
I spoke to a bloke about my rear axle and he said he thinks the LSD is fucked. when i push it round a corner the car judders but in a straight line its fine any idears. the rear axle is a 4ha out of a mk2 jag i think.

    Re: Mk1 Fiesta RWD Cosworth

I did something to the fiesta!!!!!!!!!!
The bumpers done and so are the arches.
I fitted the fiberglass boot with the pins i got, it looks the nuts and pre-drilled all the holes for the plastic windows.
The windows took alot of shapeing even though they where made for the car.
I also bought a tow car its a p100 im gunna start a thread on it.

    Re: Mk1 Fiesta RWD Cosworth

Got a bit more done on the fiesta finally i have finished the electric power steering colume i made a rolled 12mm bar bracket for it, so its a bit stronger now and it gives me someware to put my digital dash.
I welded the roll cage stifferners in on the front just got to do the back. I had to make a new gearbox mount because the power from the engine bent the other one, just a few more bits and it can be prepped and painted.
