    MK2 Escort Drums to Discs

    Hi All,

I am looking at pulling my axle housing out and freshening it up in my project and thought I might convert the drums to disc.. The car is completely stripped and panels being repaired etc the normal stuff being done to it.

I am just looking if any knows a thread on the topic as such or can point me in the right direction. Its an English axle setup - the pinion and crown come out through the front of housing? I believe that's an English type?

Question is, do anyone do a conversion kit for the setup or is there another car such as a cortina or capri that has discs already that I can utilise to do the mod?

    Thanks,
    Jared.

There are lots of ways to do it - depends if you want a turnkey solution; i.e. unbox the parts and bolt them on. Or, whether you are happy to do a bit of machining or part finding to possibly put something together cheaper.

    For example:

    https://www.motorsport-tools.com/wil...60-130550.html

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mk1-Mk2-Es...4AAOSw~oFXIhFs

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mk1-Mk2-Es...3D152071176617

I got the latter kit (though with brackets for an Atlas) and it literally was just bolt on. One thing I did have to do was fit a second handbrake bracket on the tunnel, as the cable is dual-pull. Trivial amount of work though.

Thanks for the information, appreciate it. Definitely points me in the right direction with a couple of ideas there.
I think the turnkey solutions there will be my best options, instead of trying find parts etc.
    Thanks again

One thing often not mentioned and will depend on the disc, is that the half shaft flanges need machining down to fit inside the disc bell - I had to take about 6mm off the radius of my RS2 shafts - so not entirely bolt on!

Yes, definitely ensure that whatever you buy will go on without any machining! The kits from Classic and Rally Spares definitely don't need any mods. Check before you buy.
