Anyone got experience with this?
JP
how about the difference between individual panels. like fibre bonnet vs steel?
surely someone has used and measured the differences.
Please.
Justin
Ok ill try this way
Fibre bonnet approximately 6Kg's
Fibre boot 4.6 kg's
doors approx 8kg's
front arches ?
Does anyone know the weight of the original steel parts?
why dont you weigh them?
Car is 12000 miles away at the moment! Literally other side of the planet.
JP
Hey here are the weights of mine that I've just quickly taken for you.
Bonnet (with stay and Ford letters)! = 14kg
Bare door = 13kg
Full door (with glass, winder and lock mechanisms) = 20kg
Genuine Ford AVO style guard = 4kg
I can weigh the boot on the weekend for you unless someonebeats me to it
Good man thanks pikey15
Very helpfull.
Cheers
JP
Wow!! thats a lot of weight saving, especially if you use fibreglass wings, perspex windows etc.
So it looks like fibre is roughly 50% the Weight of steel.
Savings of circa 30kg,s on panels, and at a guess another 20 with lexan.
Big investment for 30-50 kg,s
Thanks guys
JP
5-7% better power to weight ratio for around £500,cheaper than engine mods to give you the same
Could always go the whole hog?........... not cheap but probably weighs 25 - 30% of a regular + independent chassis, so trick ltwt. suspenders and driveline - BONUS LOL!

If you are looking to put in fibreglass doors, in my opinion I would add a full cage with door bars (negating some if not all of the weight saving), would not like to get t boned by a Chelsea tractor without them.

a roll cage will add back in about 40kgs
Fibreglass doors aren't Road legal anyway
Graham,
Whilst I'm not familiar with U.K. rules, which are far, far more lenient than we have here in Oz, they are not legal for a number of reasons, and without going into the Australian Design Rules, the main reason is that they do not have anti-intrusion qualities of standard doors.
Regardless, it's a race car and the majority of Js car would not pass legislation here anyway.
Shaun
Because the only ones you'll find for sale are are not certified for road use, so you would need to make them yourself.
Not so sure about that, most parts related to safety carry pretty stringent QA, BS5750 and ISO checks, wouldn't really touch anything that hasn't
maybe you wouldnt but the motor trade and internet is awash with cheap crap, or counterfit stuff so you cant always tell. its a well known fact that one of the biggest motor factor that both re imports substandard parts intended for the 3rd world and reboxes cheap shit into brand name boxes
I'm sure
So where is best to buy fibre panels that fit?
