What vented discs for princess calipers?

I bought a pair of princess calipers for my Escort Mk1 project, already spaced, now I need to source some discs.

I read somewhere that the correct discs should be 257x21 .

I was told that the discs were Renault 21 ones redrilled.

    Is that correct?

    If so what R21 model?

    Regards to all.

i have heard about redrilled renault 21 discs. R21 is the model!!!

the engines varied but i think all the discs were the same, as well as being redrilled they are most likely also turned down to get to 257mm dia

although the concept of correct disc is slightly far fetched, seeing as you are talking about using a vented renault disc with modified austin 4 pot ap calipers on a ford which should have 2 pot girling calipers solid discs!

The correct discs are 257mm, Rallydesign do the correct sized discs specifically for using Princess calipers.

More than likely, thye are cheap tho, so unless you have a lathe by the time you buy them then pay someone to machine them, it works out cheaper to just buy them, you can buy drilled/grooved ones too.

Yes , r21 266 discs turned down to 257 and re drilled, that's what I use as can buy good quality brembo discs and use, Rallydesign supply ready but probably a less quality disc, some people use BMW 325 discs and re drill but with these there is some pad over lap on inside pad inside diametre

Can anyone provide links or a Brembo/ EBC part number for these R21 discs? I also want to use princess calipers with good quality discs.

Re: What vented discs for princess calipers?

I found a couple thanks. No EBC or Brembo. In grooved I found Tarox, grooved and crossed drilled in Mintex and grooved Vmax. The Mintex and Vmax appear to be to modified discs that are being sold at 257mm. I can also get RDA brand here but they are plain discs which are no good for me as the car will be pretty fast. I should also ask while I'm here if the princess conversion is well worthwhile compared to spaced type16 calipers with grooved EBC discs and ferodo DS2500 pads. A few here in aust don't believe there'd be any benefit but surely, 4pot AP calipers and a bigger disc would have to be an upgrade?

the princess upgrade on paper looks great, in practice it seems to make little difference,

thinking about it unless it gives much greater pad or brake piston area which it doesnt, it wont make any real difference, other than giving you heavier brakes and a few mm extra disc diameter do next to nothing for brake performance

Thanks Graham, I'll stick to my Type16 set up for now then.
