Don't know about false temp readings but both are reading pre thermostat so should be the same! I've gone for the Raceline just for the better stat placement IMO. I have a new Retroford one if it doesn't work out but will be engine out to swop it over.

Don't know about a mk1 escort as i've got a mk2 and there is about 1/4" clearance between head and bulkhead lip - the Raceline has more clearance than the RF one as its slimmer, not having to contain a thermostat!

The rf one doesn't have stat in rear section.

Shows how much i've ever looked at the one on my bench LOL! Never realised it was mounted in the tube end. Housing does look a bit deeper though, not massive - just a bit.

    I have both.
The raceline one doesn't have provision for the ECU CTS. If you're running a heater then you need to add the crappy ford cast elbow, which is a one shot operation due the tapered thread. You also need a thermostat housing.
The RF item is better I think, although heater hose connection is a bit awkward.

    Are you sure ALLADDIN?
Always thought that Retro Ford water rail had the thermostat inside the rear housing
I am using the Raceline water rail in my Anglia because of space problems and easy access to the thermostat.
No problems until now. Drilled the extra hole in thermostat recommended by Raceline to allow hot water to reach the thermostat via the rail tube when starting from cold

He's right on that one. If you unbolt the long tube that goes to the top hose the stat is in the end of it.
