I would be surprised if it didn't, they are shock absorbers, not springs.
I had some on my Capri, I found that very nearly the lowest setting was best for general road use.

Took it for a test drive after and all of a sudden the roads round here aren't as smooth as they used to be [/quote]

That reminds me of a time probably over 20 years ago when I fitted Spax adjustables to the rear of my Mk2 Popular Plus, I wound the adjustment up pretty high and the back end 'hopped' around the first corner that I took in anger, wound them back down to the lowest setting and they were perfect.

Re: The car formally known as 'mint'

I have to say, having done about 100 odd miles in the car in the last couple of days, many of which were motorway - these shocks have genuinely transformed the car! To a few people on here I have moaned about how horrible the car was at 'motorway speeds' with bad vibrations and so on. The car seems so much smoother now and I took the car up to, erm, we'll say 'high speed' and it was fine! Am over the moon with it

Re: The car formally known as 'mint'

Yeah what he said I went for the 'normal' ones because the Golds were somewhat out of my price range!

Will get them on when the weather improves...and I have some hubs, infact if anyone has any Capri hubs for sale could you let me know. I expect I'll wait until I've bought some new front brakes too and do the lot in one go.

Which front brake set up do people recommend for a 13" wheel? I've been looking at the Wilwood stuff, but the different options are beyond me!

Re: The car formally known as 'mint'

Right, it's time to start to think about what brakes I want to use.

They need to fit under 13" wheels and not be a load of hassle and cost basically.

The way I see it, I have 3 options:

    1) Wilwoods: There are many different brake kits from them ranging in size. I was originally looking at the kits around £400 but have been pointed towards the kits nearer the £500 mark (VAT inc.)
    2) Capri Sport: This kit was mentioned when I suggested a smaller budget, but I've heard mixed things about them. Anyone got any experience of them? Worth looking into?
    3) Merv's Princess' - again another set up I don't know much about but have heard a lot about.

Anyone able to shed any light on these choices or options?

I would also like to say while I'm writing a huge and to Pig who sent me these fellas completely FOC. Top man

If Glens got some Princess calipers for you, go for them.
If you haven't already done it, fit Goodridge hoses too.

Re: The car formally known as 'mint'

The standard rubber ones can flex, so effectively absorbing some of the hydraulic pressure. Goodridge (or other braided hoses) flex far less so the pressure goes to the brakes instead.
Against brand new good quality rubber hoses there is probably very little to be noticed, over ageing rubber hoses there is a fair bit of difference. Difficult to tell as when fitted the fluid is replaced so some improvement will come from that.
Goodridge hoses are guaranteed for ever! That is some confidence.

Maybe if you change the fluid thats been in there since new when you change the brake lines that will most likely be good enough. Decent set of pads and new tyres and you might be about to stop in a reasonable distance

Re: The car formally known as 'mint'

Well I'm exploring two options at the moment, having spoken to many people over the last couple of days, I think I'm down to two options.

    1) The Princess Calipers from Glen and these disks http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product...n2rvotusn5b7s4

    2) Rob is pricing up a set of 2.8i Capri brakes etc. This sounds like a good option and Rob says they are great on his RS2000 My only thoughts are that after looking on the 'net, Capri 2.8i vented disks are 245x20mm and standard Mk2 Escort are 248x13mm...slightly bigger (albeit not vented, but this should only make a difference after prolonged hard use).

I will also be getting a set of the Goodridge braided hoses for which ever set up I get

Any more opinions on the above greatfully welcomed

Said not to have the overhang problem, although if they are what I have, there is an even bigger "underhang" problem. Which means you can't get the damned pads out!

Re: The car formally known as 'mint'

They only way to increase breaking power is to either change the brake piston size or change the disk diameter, the most effective is a change in disk diameter.

Going from solids to vented will gain you no stopping power what so ever UNLESS the brake problem you had was related to the pad material overheating.

Your best cheapest simplist option would be to go for 1 260mm disk upgrade, 4 pot princess would be ok as would series 2 rs turbo type calipers (caprisport 260 kit)

Sounds like it may well need to be the 4 pot Princess stuff then and those 257mm disks on the RalDes site.

Can you not already lock up the wheels with the standard brakes? Do you suffer from brake fade? If the brakes work then spend the money on tires and or wider wheels.

Nope brakes won't lock up in the dry, they lock up in the wet though. Better tyres are on the shopping list too, going to go for some Yoko A539 I think since they seem to be a popular choice.

Princess 4 pots would reccommend. Buy some proper pads for them such as Pagid RS14 - you'll need to modify a subaru pad to suit - but worth the aggro for the excellent stopping power & low wear rate / kind to discs etc you get from these pads. I have the Rally design x drilled discs too & they have been on my car now for 8 years with no issues.

here's how well they stop 120mph - 40 in a matter of meters.

Looks very impressive in the video there Windy I'm convinced on the Princess set up to be honest. Not sure I'll bother with special pads so much, only for road use and can't really be bothered with the hassle tbh. Cheers for the idea though Windy because I'm sure someone else will find that information useful
