Re: The car formally known as 'mint'

Right - what a fantastic day

Got down to Plough Lane Coachworks (a bit of a plug, but so deserved ) about 11am and continued with the cleaning and the polishing - this continued for several hours with some help from Terry as well - it didn't stop there, we then waxed the car, cleaned windows inside and out, cleaned the tyres (made them black again ) and finally back to blacked the interior! Genuinly looks like a new car I was thinking it was respray time but the paint work has a few more years in it yet...including the 32 year old paint on the roof!

Am so impressed and can't thank everyone at Plough Lane enough - even just for the kick up the backside I needed to get it done!

    Anyway, here are the pics

While I was there Gaz popped down with his Mk1 (which I have to say...it F***ing fast! ) so decided to take a few pictures of Plough Lane - if only all garages looked like this

    Enjoy

I also forgot to mention - we also masked up the rear panel and put some exhaust paint on my crusty exhaust tail pipe and Terry found me a nice brand new Ford badge for the grill, first time its had one since I put the grill on about 5 years ago

Oh and Dave...your bonnets ready for paint

Drove 44 miles today - mixture of country roads and motorways and the car managed a nice 30mpg - not bad for a Pinto on 45s

Re: The car formally known as 'mint'

Right, over the last few weeks the car has slowly developed a intermittent starting problem. I think it has something to do with the starter/the wiring on the starter. When I turn the key to start it I get just kind of 'click-donk' noise and that's it. Turn the key back and try again and it will start usually. Other times it has taken up to 10 attempts for it to start. When it does start it starts and runs on the button

As I say, I expect it's the wiring to the starter, any other ideas are greatly appreciated. I hope to get it on a ramp at the weekend to have a decent look (if Terry lets me take over the workshop for yet another Saturday )

Definately the starter or wire between it and the solenoid/the connections

Yeah, sounds like the solenoid is engaging, but the motor isn't spinning.

Re: The car formally known as 'mint'

    Update time

Well the intemittent starting problem seems to have (*touch wood*) cured itself which is nice so.

As you all know, it was Classic Ford Show at the weekend - so I decided it was an ideal opportunity to spend some money

A few weeks ago at Plough Lane I tried a set of Revolutions on the Escort...

    And liked it

So when I saw these on Midland Wheels stand at CF...

...I just couldn't say no They are now looking lovely at the end of my bed

I also met with Glen (Mervhill) and bought a set of Princess 4 pots and disks off him which I have since cleaned up a bit and ordered some new pads for. May get a rebuild kit for them too if I can find one.

So all in all a fantastic days money spending

Still not sure what colour to do the Revos - I expect I'll just fit some tyres and see what they're like for now

Oh and I meant to ask after all that - I assume the Princess calipers and disks will swap straight over? I have braded hoses to go with them too

Yeah the Pricess calipers bolt straight up, I assume the discs are Capri 2.8i ones?

You'll need longer caliper bolts and some washers / a spacer to centralise the calipers on the discs though.

The discs and calipers just came straight off the standard mounting points on my billies Matt, they'll go on no worries.

Actually if the solenoid's working, then it's not my wiring :P As we used a proper starter strap (remember that test strap I made? hahaha)

BTW nice hairdryer in your room.

    Revos look nice.

Got the brakes on I tell you what - it's like a new car Soooooo much better than before, it doesn't have that 'am I going to stop' feel to it anymore

Just the wheels and tyres to go now. I need to get the wheels balanced/weighted as close to the spokes as possible though in the inside of the wheel because currently the calipers knock into the weights! (So they have been removed obviously! )
