Post electric fan - 3 options help me choose!

    Hi Folks,

im struggling to keep my xe power mk2 cool on hot days while doing single venue autotests. at the moment it has some crappy genric slimline fan which is fairly useless if im honest. i just stuck it on in an emergency after i did the engine install as i was under pressure.it will be going in the nearest skip.
the car gets used in probably the harshest environment for a cooling system, autotesting in a single venue in on a hot day at basically full revs for over a minute.

as space is at a premium, (3" depth (75mm) absolute max ) and id much rather a pull through than a blow, ive come down to three options, all with in a few quid of each other.
can anyone recommend what might be the best?

    SPAL Pulls Air 1328cfm dia:335mm Depth: 62mm

    Revotec 14" (350mm) Sucks Air depth: 67mm 2540m3/h 9.6 Amps 1900g

Davis Craig 350mm depth:76mm doesnt give air flow, but i heard good things?

    thanks chaps !

What radiator are you running? wopuld it not be better to increase the radiator surface air / core size and airflow rather than increase the fan CFM? also do you have room for a pull through?

im running a custom made tripple core Rad as big that will fit in the area - the rad size is not the problem, if the car is moving, say on a track or a targa rally etc the temperature will never budge above 85c no matter how hot it is out or how hard i drive it, so the rad'c capability is more than enough.
the problem is completing 22 autotests in a factory yard in 1st gear never getting any air into the front of the car.
i have about 3 inches from the rad to the crank pulley, a little more above that

Pullers are always more efficient...but ensure you're pulling air through as much core as possible.

And I'd always use Spal, where possible.

And ensure only cool air can pass through the front of the rad and that hot air can escape...but never escape back to the front.

If my maths is correct the Spal is pulling 7315 m3/hr which is a fair old breeze! Spal's have a good rep!

    Sum - 1328 cfm / 3.3 / 3.3 = 121.9m3 / min..... x 60 = 7315m3 / hr?

Hmm let me refer to the mail and make sure it's CFM, that sounds too good to be true

Thats about right the biggest Spal fan pulls 1900 cfm, your calc is wrong, you would divide 1328 cfm by 0.588578 to give M3/hr

    Or multiply CFM by 1.70 to equal CM/hr....... 1328x1.7 = 2257.6 or 1328 / 0.588578 = 2256.3 LOL

    Strange though a metre is 3.3 ft so a cubic metre is 3.3 x 3.3 x 3.3 = 35.937CF. 1328 / 35.937 = 36.953 x 60 = 2217.2 CM/hr
DOH - I forgot the 3rd dimension in original!)

You do have a shroud on the radiator, right?

Those plastic chinese fans aren't worth a shit... But the SPAL fan should work great.

looks like decisions made! thanks folks.
yep, well i have a diy one, it covers most of the exposed rad anyway but i really think the sh!t chinese fan is the culprit

a shrouded fan works a lot better! Efficiency goes up a lot
I also have a chinese fan fitted behind the rad. It sound and works like a hairdrier rather than like an automotive fan
but able to keep temp in "place" so I'm not worried about.

no sorry, the shroud is not fitted on the escort, but with the radiator and fan in hand it should not be hard to make it.
