    aut. to manual

    Hello!
    I´m thinking of starting up a new project, a escort mk2. I´ve found a nice 1,6 automatic an i´m wondering if it´s a lot of work to covert it into manual? The gearbox i´m planning to use is a bw t5, i´ve heard that the automatic modell has a bigger gearbox so will the bw t5 box fit without any modifications?

    it will fit with an auto shell, but you need a new prop as the t5 is longer than the auto box, it might be really tight if you use the standard prop, you might just get away with it. if you use sierra type 9 box goes straight in and you can use original prop, and if you find the right crossmember it will bolt straight up too.

    The bulkhead will need modifying and reinforcing for the pedal box too. (well it does on a Mk1 anyway)

    I only know about Mk1s, but I guess Mk2s are the same or similar.
    On a Mk1 the manual version has a slightly different bulkhead reinforcement for the pedal box.
    I only know that because my cousin had to change his when he did the swap.
    Here is a pic of my engine bay, showing the reinforcement.
    (ps, my engine bay does look slightly different now )
