Does anyone have information on best Mk1 suspension set ups?

Hi, I'm looking for information or help regarding mk1 suspension set ups. I want to keep the car reasonably low on 15s and bubbled arch.

    Rear end,

I have already purchased -2" single leaf de cambered springs 145lb and plan on buying Bilstein double eye shocks for the rear. I'm just waiting for the leaf springs to arrive so I can set them up and check the mounting distances for the shocks (As I've been told with the decambered springs the shocks will be out of the comfort zone and I may need to have made?)

    Front end,

I'm struggling more with the front set up. I'd like to go with adjustable coil overs but have no idea on weather I need short/long legs. What lb springs or inserts?? I'll be running Cosworth Engine and like I said above I'd like to keep the car low.

Cheers for any help or advice.

    Hi
I have asked the same as you for both my MK1 and MK2 so it would be wrong of me not to give back a little

I genuinely don't think this is correct! There has been hundreds if not thousands of MK1's running decambered rear springs and using standard size aftermarket shocks. As I am on my MK1 at the moment!
I'm sure if I'm wrong, someone will be along to put me right?

Bilstein short fronts (think they're referred to as 300/110's?) and I found 225 lb springs, 10.5 free length as a good start.

You can go a lot more but depends on how deep your pockets are

    I agree with Dazzle.

My set up on my fast road mk2 with standard arches:
    Front:
    *Adjustable tca
*Tarmac tensionstrut kit with 22mm anti-roll bar
*Rs2000 legs retubed with short tarmac threaded tubes.
    *Short bilstein tarmac 300/110 dampers
*Trimmed off bilstein bumpstops on the dampers
    *195lbs 5,25" springs with 10,5" freelength
*Rubber roller bearing top mounts with high angle washer undeneath
    *Gartrac cranked tarmac steeringarms
    *2.4 quickrack
*Rs2000 green track rod ends (i have rosejointed in situ ones waiting to be fitted for next season)
    *Rs2000 aluminium hubs

The car i still running its crossflow but im switching to a rotrex supercharged 2.0 duratec next year so might get a tad bit stiffer springs for it by then. And maybe also try the next size down in arb diameter. This is only because im thinking about doing some trackdays after that and on the track i would probably benefit from some stiffer springs.

Currently though im fitting gartracs -1" topmounts to it because id like to get the front a bit lower without losing suspensiontravel.

    Rear:
    * -1" decambered 146lbs grp1 single leaf springs
    * 2" loweringblocks
*Bilstein grp1 dampers (might switch to GAZ adjustabe dampers next year)
    *Milton A-frame kit
*Basemodel mk2 escort 14mm anti-roll bar with polybushes
*springsaddles cut and rewelded so the diff points downwards by 1,5-2degrees in reference to the gearbox on normal cruising conditions.

    /David

    Thanks Dazzle,

Ill send the information of to Bilstein and see what they say. Ill post it on this thread when I do for anyone who may need it in the future. Like you said though I'm guessing loads of people are already running De cambered leafs and B6 Shocks.
Where did you purchase your 300/110 shocks from?

    cheers

    Thanks Gyver,

Can I ask why your thinking of swapping to GAZ over Bilstein? Most people I've spoken to have suggested that Bilstein handle the power a lot better than GAZ? Is it just because you can adjust the GAZ Shocks?

Some great info though appreciate it Thanks

The only real reason is because if i want to play around a bit and do some slides it would help if i could stiffen up the dampers on the go.
