Ive thought about this conversion many many times on my mk1 If you are going to do this then go down the EFI route for sure. Gets rid of the big bulky dizzy at the back of the engine and you dont have to use the metering unit either Seeing this has retempted me to do it now.....

Hi danny i would love to go efi but i dont have the money to spend on the bits now aswell i have got quite a bit of mfi bits and bobs so its got to be mfi even i could sell the mfi stuff i would only get pennies for it Maybe cossie efi pectel board and anti lag etc etc that would be well smart maybe when iam rich.I sometimes wish i had never started it but i am going to stick with it

Nice upgrade path later on with a nice 16v head too, should be way more than 150bhp too I would have thought, as a standard RS turbo is 130bhp

If you look at the top picture the bulkhead is cut out as the turbos fitted too and the boost pipe comes from inside! If you look carefully there is no cut out for the fuse box.Iam hoping that the heater will fit back in too if not a mini one will be fitted. Will try to get some more pics on friday.

I knew there was another reason to go zetec if its a pre 97 zetec the pistons are pocketed so its saves on having to get the pistons pocketed as i rember the crowns are thicker too or is it the pre 97 are thicker so they can be pocketed as the post97 are thiner i can"t quite rember i read it some where where as well i have a decompression plate as well.So for the mo pistons are left as they are does anybody know or have any more info?

Best thing would be to turn the turbo round on the manifold That way you dont have to chop the bulkhead as the air filter will enter the turbo from the front of the car and the exhaust will exit lovely behind the x-member Any chance you could take a pic of the back of the head for me so that i can see the space available

Re: Mk 1 Escort Zvh T

now i think about it it makes a fair bit of sense.

the bottom end is zetec, so it bolts in using off the shelf parts...........

the top part has all the manifolds ready for the turbo, all the pipery etc.

then the MFI is easier and cheaper to mess about with than EFi.

not to mention the ZVH conversion is well documented.

probably one of the cheapest and easiest turbo conversions for an escort.

very interesting project mate, i started building an RST105E but never managed to complete it

it looks like you have got further than i ever managed with mine, and the T3 manifold fowled on the world cup engine mounts. yours apears to clear it ok.

il be keeping a close eye on this build.

Thanks mike for the intrest your 105e would have been a great motor.I have got to spin the turbo round on the manifold so the exhaust runs down by the bulk head so i wont have to mod the exhaust end of the turbo. the turbo does slightly foul the oil breather blanking plate as it has cap head bolts and it needs countersunk bolts but thats a minor thing or i could just fit a core plug but i like the alloy plate something else to polish. What ecu"s were you going to use?

Still no progress to report but thought i would put picture of the rear cross member that i modded as per rally prep book.I also have a allimax battery tray was gonna put it in the boot but i got thinking about weight distribution and thought weather it would be any better where the rear seat was or behind passenger seat and fire ext will be moved to get the weight down closer to the floor.

nice project, ZVH engine do produce good power too, buy itilising the EFi you can simply use an RST none-PATS ECU along with the engine loom instead of a re-mappable ECU - I like the cage, go on sell it to me........

Sorry not for sale cage is a standard FABRICAGE cage out of a grass track car hence the extra bar between the windscreen and rear hoop and it had two door bars on the drivers side now removed bar behiid seats is one of the door bars i got and they wouldn"t fit with out being modded more so i thought sod it and cut it about and mounted it behind the seats done the same between the rear legs too.

i fogot to say i also had a 1800 cvh bottom end out of a sierra with the xr2 head, piper 285 cam and a dmtr carb and that went really well 2 and was near on bulletproof, my point is if you havent allready purchased a bottom end it may be another option 2 u, that way you would allready have the right sump
