Ignition Starting Problem
Hi everyone,
I have finally got around to starting my engine. However, I'm a having a bit of trouble keeping the car running.
I turn the key to position 3 and the car starts, I then let go from the starting position and the car cuts out (not juice to the coil)
How can I get this to 'latch' so the car fires constantly on position 2 (normal running position).
I have the old square separate solenoid.
Many Thanks
Jamie

Re: Ignition Starting Problem
Is there power to any other circuits usually powered in the 'run ign switch' position ie. indicators / wipers?
Potentially Ign. switch problem if no to above query. If you still have ballast wire in ignition then this could be broken. The ign sw. in 'start' position bypasses this wire hence why it starts on starter then stops.

Re: Ignition Starting Problem
Yes there is power to the auxiliaries in position 2. There was no wire connected to the ignition for the starter power - just the one on the solenoid. Looking at the wiring diagram there was no evidence of this ( I rewired the car).
I have since connected a live to the starter solenoid ignition post, but it still won't run on position 2

Re: Ignition Starting Problem
hi
in position 2 the coil should be fed by 8-9v supply via the ballast resistor which is a pink/white? wire in the front loom. it's a black wire from the ignition switch to the coil, jointed to black/yellow just before the coil.
in position 3 there's a black/yellow from the solenoid that gives 12v to the coil to help starting.
so it sounds like you've got that one connected but no feed direct from the ignition switch.

Ignition Starting Problem
As above
If it's a mk2 then black yellow from bottom fuse 2 out to coil via resistance. I think it's a black sheath section past battery. If your using a 12v coil rather than 9 you can run a separate supply direct from ign or f2 base out to coil
