Shortening pinto valves so they do not hit the rockers

    Hi Guys,

Hopefully someone can help me here.

I am changing cams in my 2.0 pinto and have hit a snag.
I had already measured the base circle of the new cam and it is only 0.5mm larger so was expecting to need to take a little off my group1 valves (currently at the standard too long length).
I decided to put some new rockers in at the same time (ft1010ph from burtons).

The problem I have is the height of the new rockers are significantly more than the standard ford rockers I have taken out.
This means that if I use the new rockers I will need to take 1 maybe 2mm off the valve height and am concerned that the rocker will hit the spring retainer.
If keep the old rockers in (which do not look overly worn) I can make it work with well less than 1mm off the top of the valve.

Has anyone got any tricks for allowing more to be taken off the valve length?

It looks like there is a bit of meat in the spring retainer so I think I could get some more clearance by turning the radius into a chamfer (see the picture)
Has anyone tried modifying the "tags" on the rockers to remove the interference?
I also assume to get the best life from my new cam I should put new rockers in?

To give an idea on how different the rockers are. I setup the new ones with 0.010" tappets. Then swaped to the original rockers and the tappet seting was 0.066"

grind the rocker sides at an angle to miss the retainer
