Hi I'm Geoff from New Zealand, I have lived around escorts most of my life, My father rallied a mk1 and after the mk2 cortina they bought a new mk2 esky which was the first car i drove on the road (we still have that car but parts only) it was a 1100L, Dad had a 2lt all ready to go into it once he killed the 1100 (which took great effort) but he ended up putting it back in with a GT Cam mild port and flowed exhaust (he says now that he opted for the smaller engine once he found out how fast mum drove), that car did the family for years (when we striped it a few years back the cam was almost lobe-less) and never missd a beat, it want bloody well for a 1300. I went on the big OE after finishing engineering for a few years and came back 4 years ago. When I came back to the farm I was surprised to find not only did they farm stock but m2 escorts too, the side paddock had numerous eskys in various states plus a few in sheds, mum was driving what I though was a purple 2 door 1300 sport (middle pic above), I didn't think too much about it till I took it for a drive and it had all the wrong parts, for a start it was automatic, it had no sport gear on it (in NZ they only released the 2dr mk2 as 1600 sport tho there are a few 1300 sport and rs2000 imports) the heater is backtofront, it has L interior and GL ex trims, I thought maybe dad had made it up from parts , but nope, all was all factory, after a little research we found out it was a pre-market prototype used for the automatic escort roll out worth in excess 30K NZD, they had it insured for $2500, I soon fixed that. Not long after dad bought the green wagon ( top right pic) as a rolling chaise, we threw a 205 block with torque cam, mild ports, flowed exh bolted to a t9 5sp and 3.7 diff, 4 pot front calipers and gt gas struts all around, awesome to drive and really economical. Then I started on my nightmare 3 engines later (ill just list how it is now the full story another time) Yellow 1300 auto ( top left pic), 1600 bored 60tho forged pistons, rods, lightened crank, steel flywheel (6lb) rs2000 clutch, fully balanced, High vol oil pump, 244 cam, full port polish, hardened valve seats, stainless oversized valves, double valve springs with recessed head, port matched 40dcoe's, flowed 2" exhaust, T9 5Sp Gbox, 3.9 diff, 9" rear breaks with s/s inserts, gt gas all round, RS2000 front swaybar, 2l radiator, 160 amp alt, custom made gauge gt dash plus loads more ive forgotten. Most of the work I do myslf apart from the engine machining (if my mill was a bit bigger i would even try that), once everthing was sorted it went like hell, Im still at about 800km so the engine hasnt been over 4500rpm but its itching too. Well im sure i've bored you all to death so ill leave it at that, my next post ill show you how to make a high volume oil pump for next to nothing.
