Re: Escort Mk2 ST170 Classic Ford feature car

Okay, so this is the most regrettable decision I've ever had to make. Up for sale here is my stunning Ford Escort Mk2 2-door fitted with a 2.0 Focus ST170 Zetec engine on Jenvey 45 throttle bodies, which my father and I completed a full bare metal nut-and-bolt restoration on to a very high standard between 2006 and 2011. The car looks awesome, it puts a huge smile on your face, the loud pedal gives you a real kick in the back and the engine sounds awesome (engine mapped at Northampton Motorsport). Unfortunately, since completing the restoration my attention has been on other things, meaning that I've completed fewer than 250 miles in it since 2011. Despite it being one of my favourite possessions and being so much fun to drive, I think I've finally realised that for me the pleasure was more in the project itself.

In October 2011 the car was featured in and on the front cover of Classic Ford magazine (photo attached). Ever since then it's lived under a cover in the well-insulated and ventilated garage at my parents' house, only coming out for its MOTs in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015, and a few brief summer drives here and there. Since its restoration it has only been driven between the months of April and September, it has never been driven in the rain or seen wet roads, and has spent every single night since I bought it in June 2006 locked away in the garage.

So as I don't drive it, and it feels wrong having it just sit there, I've made the very painful decision to sell. This is the spec:

    - The car (originally a 1.3 Popular Plus) has had a complete restoration to the bare shell, and all panels repaired/replaced to a high visual/structural standard
    - The car has been shot-blasted, and then re-sprayed all over (including underneath) in six litres of Ford Olympic Blue
    - The engine is from a Ford Focus ST170. This has been converted to run in the Escort with a brand new rear wheel drive kit from Retro Ford, Corby. The kit consists of: engine mounts, alternator relocation kit, new steel oil sump/pick-up pipe, new dipstick, DCOE inlet maniford, full Ashley exhaust system for Zetec, Emerald ECU with wiring loom, Jenvey 45 throttle bodies x 2, water manifold relocation kit, radiator, Retro Ford flywheel, Zetec clutch cable bracket, rear wheel drive starter motor, high pressure fuel pump/filter, Zetec HT leads, coil pack bracket, ST170 vernier cam pulley, oil catch tank
    - The engine has been mapped by Troy Robinson at Northampton Motorsport, producing 170bhp
    - All standard parts put back on the car have been bought new/reconditioned
    - The shell itself is a standard 2-door, apart from a rear-only type roll cage with diagonal fitted, a removable strut brace at the front, and a larger gearbox tunnel welded in
    - There is no sunroof
    - All rubbers that were not in great condition were replaced with brand new products from East Kent Trim
    - The car has fully reconditioned front quarter bumpers and rear bumper
    - Suspension wise, the car has 2.8 Capri Bilsteins at the front, which have been fully reconditioned and converted to adjustable coilovers. The rear suspension has had a Panhard rod and radius arms. It has 2” lowering blocks at the rear, as well as gas shocks with adjustable resistance
    - It has a quick steering rack
    - The brakes at the front are grooved and vented with M16 calipers
    - The rear drum brakes have been upgraded to 9”
    - A bias pedal box has been fitted
    - The gearbox, alloy bellhousing and prop shaft are Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000 type
    - Thatcham immobiliser
    - The car is fitted with 4 x Superlite Alloy Wheels (13x7) with Yokohama A539 tyres (175/50/13)
    - The rear bench seat is from a Ford Escort Mk2 Mexico
    - The front bucket seats are from Midland Wheel Supplies
    - The car is fitted with OMP 3-Point Harnesses for both front seats
    - The steering wheel is a Mountney
    - There is an Alpine CD Player fitted with 2 x Pioneer 6x9 speakers mounted in the custom rear door cards
    - The log book has all been amended to reflect the new engine/colour

The Escort will have 12 months' MOT as of August 2017

    The negatives:
    - As the car is in the same condition now as when it was restored, the only negatives are that the Panhard rod is fitted on what is probably the wrong side for a Zetec exhaust. This is because originally I was going to install a Pinto, which would have meant the exhaust was on the other side. If you were being fussy you might switch the Panhard rod around, but it's not been problematic for me. Also the speedo occasionally does not work, however this has not been of concern to me as due to the low profile tyres the rolling radius (and therefore the speedo reading) was inaccurate anyway, so I always used the digital speedo on my sat-nav. In some light the paint on the boot lid has slight imperfections, but this never concerned me enough to remedy it. Needs a replacement boot rubber.

Any questions please email via eBay in the first instance. The decision to sell has been very tough and it has taken a long time for me to accept this is the right thing to do, and I'm not looking for a quick sale. The Escort has immense sentimental value to me as it represents five years of weekends in the garage with my dad, so I am only interested in selling it for the right price to someone who can give it the love and attention that I can't. I'm only interested in hearing from those with serious interest, please. The car is also advertised elsewhere. Located near to Salisbury. *I am away for most of the week of the 21st August, but can answer any questions over email.*

That car is stunning mate, a credit to you and your Dad.

Ive often thought about doing the same! I built my one with my Dad over 8 years and have had a few offers on it! Since its completion in June this year I've struggled to find time to drive it and have absolutely no cash to spend on it! (Kids)
Every time i get in it and put the foot down i fall back in love with it again! Every time my sons see it and their faces light up it makes me look forward enjoying it with them when they're older!

Although i made the mistake of telling my wife how much its worth
