Mk1 Escort Steering Colums - Angle Sensor

Just planning ahead for a possible data logging project.

Has anybody added a steering angle sensor onto a standard Mk1 Escort steering column? What donor car did it come from?

There are other options rather than using an OEM part such as optical sensors, string pots, magnetic rotation sensors etc but an OEM part just seems easier if I can find something to fit.

Not knocking this ....... but of what use can the info be? To my mind this is primarily, useful info from a track car / single seaters with high geared racks eg. one turn lock to lock, to correlate steering angle to slip angle of tyres and suspension performance. I just can't see useful data from a rally car see - sawing the wheel back and forth!
I'm not sure any OEM uses steering angle sensors as not really needed - the auto park things use closed loop ultrasonics and optical sensors as far as I know.

Probably of absolutely no value other than it is part of my project. Only probable use will be in video overlays.......

Tarmac rally cars dont saw at the wheel much (very limited tyre numbers). The majority of cars use steering angle sensors as it is a vital input to stability control and traction control programmes.

I have seen people use string potentiometers and also normal pots and rotary encoders. I am fed up with bodging things and want it done right and neat hence using a part that will sit nicely behind the steering column switch gear out of sight. I will just have to manually go through as many brands as I can find at the wreckers and find something that matches the Mk1 Escort shaft diameter.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the wheel sawing action in modern / any rally cars. I'd think the use of multi axis gyroscopic acceleration devices will give the data required and more besides so serving multi purposes.
A more easily utilised device might be a linear potentiometer attached to a steering arm eg. ....... https://www.reichelt.com/gb/en/?LANG...SABEgJKYfD_BwE

surely not a lot of bodging to fit one of these
