Hi guys,
So I have finally got my MK1 Escort ready for the MOT, after 15 years But I'm experiencing som trouble with my front brakes overheating after something like 10 min's drive.
Past setup was:
Unidentified long struts
Solid discs
Standard calipers
Rubber brake lines
New setup is:
Bilstein struts
Vented discs
Spaced M16 calipers
Goodridge Braided brake lines
I have had my brake tower (MK2 unit), servo, master cylinder (19mm ATE) removed, pulled apart, painted the tower, and servo (outside only), master cylinder cleaned and refurbished with new seals.
Master cylinder seemed to work like new.
Servo works, as brake pedals drop when turning on engine.
Calipers have had new pistons and piston seals.
All lubed up with some ATE brake grease.
Everything seems to work fine, when bleeding the brakes. When realising the brake pedal, wheels rotate.
I tried to adjust the pedal pushrod, and thought that would cure the problem. But to no luck. I have even tried to adjust the pushrod all the way in, so it's as short as possible, but that only brings my brake pedal lower to the floor.
Still after 10min's drive, brakes overheat, and I have to wait for them to cooldown.
Last night out testing, I noticed a couple of high POPS/KLONKS, after 30mins of cooldown as something loosened? I'm thinking the pads ungripping brake disc, og maybe pistons retracting?
I really thought this would be a quick fix, just by adjusting the brake pedal pushrod, but doesn't seem like that.
So what do you guys reckon could be the culprit of this?
