what exhaust system ?

I know this has been touched upon before, but it has allways centered around manifolds; What exhaust systems are people using wth the xe , from the manifold back. I have an SBD cheaper manifold , it fits nicely around my mk1 and just wondered what people are using. Tony Law wants £240 for the kit alone, Ashley are about £170 but are they any good. Advice ?

Well i'd say go for Neil at 105Speeds stainless 2 1/4" system-i was umming and arring for ages trying to figure out what to go for-Ashleys that wont fit and need replacing every 18 months etc.-then Neil had these made up-that fit-and it made my mind up for me.

Awesome bit of kit-although mines a way off being fitted. I also have the SBD Clubman type manifold so fingers crossed it all goes together nicely-if not i'll wait for Neil to produce a 7 degree stainless manifold for it.

thanks for that, need a 2.5 which i see they are about to make, cost to be arranged. Sportex are doing an exhaust as well , price to be arranged, ha. I am guessing the stanless 105 speed item will be about £285 + vat, not cheap but well worth a thought. Has anyone else any ideas or suggestions ?

Why do you need 2.5" exhaust ?

£285+VAT is not expensive at all if you look at how much a stainless exhaust for an RS Turbo or a Cossie costs for example.

Agreed-for a 'fit & forget' system it cant be beat. A 'normal' system will last-what 3 years tops? I've been through an Ashley system in just over a year before-keep doing that and you'd have paid for a decent stainless one many times over.

And its been designed 'properly' so will only add power and driveability, and wont fall off/need modifying/get in the way etc.

im hearing you im just allways skint. oh and the through pipe on the manifold is 2.5 inch. if your both saying that the 105 item is the job then opk , thats what i wanted ,advice but stainless has its own problems its not flexible and the baffles go in the back box eventually costing nearly as much .oh its a tricky one.

Yes mate, we are waiting to get a YB'd escort in so we can develop the 2.5" system with a corresponding down pipe.

Personally, unless you are running mental power from the XE then 2.5" is too big.

2.25" is far better.

There is a lot of hog talked about stainless, look at it this way, we wouldnt offer a lifetime warranty if it was a problem because all those problems would just be a ball ache.

i guess the obvious answer here is to ring you, and i will. But for the benefit of the thread i guess you can supply a sleeve from the 2.5" manifold to the 2.25" exhaust ? And is that a twin box system or single, what difference does it make anyway ?

i would steer clear from a ashley system. after 6 months it will sound as if your running on the down pipe only. save your money and buy a decent system. it will be cost effective in the long run
