So, with the main part of the cage in, it was time to look at the rear suspension

Do these look familiar?? They're from the back of the Imprezza! The thought process behind this project is for it to look like it was factory produced! So, if we can use part of the Imprezza, we will

A little bit of template use and drawing took place and then a trial fit. Bonus was we had a rear strut brace as well, so we could use that to make sure the tower tops were the correct distance apart!!

Due to the contours of the Imprezza part and the contours of the rear of the Fiesta, we couldn't use the whole tower, so we ended up just using the tops!

    By dazzles9r at 2010-10-09

    By dazzles9r at 2010-10-09

Then we tied in the rear strut towers to the main cage!

We'll be connecting the 2 strut towers together with a strap bar but will do this after we have finished all our fabrication in the boot area

During this initial part of the build, our donner vehicle changed shape!! We were offered a P1 for silly money! The Engine had gone 'POP', throwing a rod through the side of the block. Also it was very tatty (not well looked after!) and the guy was in desperate need of some money so the deal was done.

Next it was onto the fitment of the Imprezza rear clip to the Fiesta. This required us getting to the underside easily. So, it was time to use my rollover jig I had for my MK2 Escort

So, with the main brace for the rear clip cut out of the Imprezza, it was time to fit it to the Fiesta! Believe it or not, during this project we have been outstanded by the way certain things have just fitted! When we came up with the idea and had the Fiesta at the Workshop, someone with an Imprezza came down to do something on it. When he put it up on the ramp, we were able to have a good look at it and take measurements. As you are starting to see, it's amazing how much matches up between the 2 different cars!!!!!

Obviously, once the brace was fitted, we had to have a trial fit of the rear suspension

With the rear clip in place we needed to look at the boot! We already knew we would have to fit the radiator in the boot as there was no room under the bonnet!!

We also realised how important the rear clip is, so we wanted to really tie it in well to the chassis of the Fiesta! This also required us to cut out the boot area!

So, with the rear clip mount well and truly fitted in the car, it would be time to look at what we were now going to do with the boot!!

So, with a boot floor back in (though not sure if it will stay!) by turning it upside down again we can also finish of the lower part of the clip brace and tidy it all up.

Re: The Ultimate Mk1 Fiesta?? ;-)

As you may have seen, we made a cradle for the Fiesta so we could move it about but also for the next part of the job, fitting the engine bay and g/box tunnel!

With a little bit more measuring, and some offering up, we cut some more of the ImpreZa engine bay!

After lots of 'in & Outs' and 'Left a bit - Right a bit' and cutting bits of here there and everywhere, it slotted in! And to be honest, a lot easier then we expected and once again, fitted up as if it was supposed to be there

With it fitted in and some well placed welds, it was time to fit some front struts and wheels to make sure we had done our calculations properly!!

Back in it's work slot, was time to trial fit our engine!

    By dazzles9r at 2010-10-09

    By dazzles9r at 2010-10-09

Then trial fit the front panel and find out how little room we have!!

Then we can't help but fit our new front arches

With the engine bay and tunnel fitted, we looked more at the floors. We wasn't happy with the fit of what was left so we decided to go for new floor pans.

So, knowing we was going to replace the floors, we had to cut out the old ones. I was able to get all 4 pieces of floor from the Donnington Ford spares day, and at a good price

Taking care to make sure we still had the chassis number in place, we fitted in the rest of the floors! Good job we carried out those delicate repairs at the beginning

Nice job no wonder ur mk2 isnt finished yet

Looks like you know what you are doing but could you not have moved the bulk head back a bit, to give you more room in the bay or would you have lost space in the cab

With the floor pans in we had to re establish the chassis. We decided this was a good time to make it a little bit more substantial and also to connect in with the ImpreZa points that came of the G/box tunnel.

My partner in crime decided to have a bit of a tidy up and do some of the welding that was required. I wasn't around so we couldn't get on with the next part so this was something he could do on his own!
So the engine bay needed to be fully welded into the car.

Our next job was to start looking at the fitment of the rear axle/diff unit and the brace bars for the nose of the diff. Once again, things fitted in well though we did have to cut the brace bars down a little, they were still in the same plane

Then we needed to look at the tie bars. Again, the Fiesta uses tie bars for it's rear suspension and with a little adjustment we were able to make mounts in just about the same position!

These tie bars were something we quickly made up so we could put it on it's wheels and move it about! We will be looking at them again soon to come up with something different

Well, unless the piccies turn up later, it doesn't look like we've got any of putting the roof on! Shame, as we did a good job!!

Once we had the roof on, it was time to look at the front wings. Because of the way we had fitted the engine bay, we had some space where the inner wing parts should be, so we had to remove the outer wings in a certain way to allow us to do some modifications to the front. We're having a removeable front panel so need to pick up on the right bits of the wing

    By dazzles9r at 2010-10-09

    By dazzles9r at 2010-10-09

These last 2 piccies are of the new wings fitted and the front panel all modified to be removable and give us clearance of the engine!!

Due to the change in our filler hole, we had to remove evidence of where it was before hand

While we're not always able to work on the car, we are doing research and asking questions. One of them was to do with the Cooling system. After talking with several companies, we came up with an idea and paid a large sum of money to one of them...

.......and this beauty came from mister postman :luxhello::luxhello::luxhello:

Pro Alloy came up with the goods for us and we have to say, what a beautiful piece of workmanship!! We'll definitely use them again

The arch kit we're using requires us to cut the fronts, which is easy enough but the rears need to be tubbed. So we started out by cutting the outer part first.

We decided to roll out the inner arch to mate up with the outer arch as we believe this will keep it nice and stiff! An arch roller was made which didn't work too bad! Well enough to do the job

Another thing that was going on during this time was the good old E-bay searching. One of the next purchases was some seats....

Re: The Ultimate Mk1 Fiesta?? ;-)

Another thing that was going on was the choice of wheels and brakes. We had a bit of a catch 22 situation as to get the brakes made, they needed to know the wheels we were going to use! And then when we went to buy the wheels, they asked what brakes we were going to fit!!

We didn't want to fit anything bigger than 15" rims, so most of the ImpreZa rims were out of the question. Also, we wanted to keep with the ImpreZa hubs, so this also limited us. We wanted to keep them looking a bit old skool.

So, we purchased our wheels. This then allowed us to send one of with a front strut/hub to get the brakes fitted/made!

    By dazzles9r at 2010-10-09

As you can see the calipers were from a MGF and were a good deal from the Bay So, a company called BG racing in Birmingham took on the job of fitting them inside our wheels with the biggest discs they could!

As we've now aided the air flow out through the back of the car, we thought about what was stopping it coming through from under the car. The rear clip is held together by a pressed metal contraption, stopping all air flow, so we decided to make a new 'less' restrictive version

So we built a jig and some braces to hold it all in the right place! Then we took lot's of measurements and started to construct something

    And that's all the piccies!!
Not bad, has only taken me best part of a day and a half to sort it all out and put it up on 3 different sites!!
Hopefully it'll be easier to keep up to date now!

There's loads of things missed out, not intentionally, just no piccies. BUT it's always good to keep some surprises back

    I hope you all enjoy
