type 9 gearbox with pinto in escort mk2 1600
I have an escort mk2 1600 sport, with pinto 2.0 not installed yet . today i brought a type 9 gearbox, with cast bellhousing. to install the gearbox, should I cut the firewall or the tunnel? I can hit them with the hammer? i have the standard crossmbember... and don't want to cut my car I attach some pictures of some escort who made the same conversion here in Uruguay

no thats not required normally ( i dont recognize that bellhousing ?)
if you drop the xmember enough on long bolts it may go in without any mods at front but we always "massaged" the bottom front corner areas with a hammer which allows clearance to lift in box onto engine without lowering.
you still need to move gear stick hole unless you had a type E box. and make mounts.

never fitted one with a cast bellhousing but an RS2000 bellhousing fits without mods so saves you grief. all you may need to do is move the gearlever hole. They are available new these days.

they will fit with the iron bellhousing, its very tight and you will need to massage the tunnel with a lump hammer, but there is no need to cut it all out, unless you are trying to make it removable with the engine and crossmember still in place

I'm going to clean the gearbox, because it's very dirty and I upload photos! i hope it comes in, I heard that the type e gearbox is stronger than type 9?

not much in it strength wise, t9 is basically type e with an extra bit of casing and a 5th gear in it
