Help needed. Inlet cam on exhaust side.

Hi Guys hopefully a simple one.

I am building-up a YB head with standard cams but as I have two unused Inlet cams I thought I would use it on the exhaust side.

So I asume timing marks on pulley for exh will be no good.? I am using standard non-vernier pulleys as the head is unskimed but need to know how to time the cam on exh side.
Read somwhere 180 deg difference but Im not sure.

I do have a DTI and Degree wheel but reading the explanation on Burton site is so confusing.
    Is there an easy way?

Not that unusual in the Bike world - can but try!

re : The Timing aspect - its as hard to explain as it is to do! Get the engine built and on a stand and just go step by step - it will become clearer as you do it!

yeah, you could give me a head and i could fit them, dammed if i could explain how though!

on the face of it 180 degrees would seem correct, BUT thats 180 crank degrees, and one cam is on its opening flank the other closing so they are more like 120 degrees different, just look at the lobe on a 8 valve camshaft and you will see what i mean.

It's a long time since I have seen a pair of Cosworth cams but I am almost certain one cam has a groove on the bearing journal and the other one does n't. If that's the case then it might not be a case of swapping as one has a groove for a reason.

If you are n't sure about the cam timing then get someone to do it that does because there's not a lot of room for error on those engines especially with a skimmed head.
