Hi guys , i bought a replacement passenger door for my Mk 1 escort - but the hinges don't match those on my shell ??
My original doors have a 'female' hinge at the top and a 'male' hinge at the bottom . These mate with corresponding 'male' hinge at the top and 'female' hinge at the bottom of the A posts of my 1974 2dr saloon shell.
My existing passenger door is pretty grotty and rotten , so i obtained a near mint 2nd hand replacement . However , I've come to try it on the car today , and found that it wont fit - this replacement door I've bought has 2 x 'male' hinges both at the top and the bottom ???
I thought that there were only 2 types of door for the 2dr saloon - pre / post 1971 -( either with or without the hole for the door lock barrel below the door handle ) . This replacement door has the hole below the handle -just the same as mine . I then thought that the difference may be because my car is a LHD built in Portugal , but after doing a google image search , all the Mk1 escort A post pictures i can see - have a 'male' hinge at the top and 'female' hinge at the bottom -just like my car.
See pics below - has any one else come across this ? , what the best way to remedy the situation ? - cut the old upper hinge off the original door and weld it to the replacement ?
