Re: fan thermo switch on pinto

I had a similar kenlowe item in mine years ago. Mine was sealed in the top hose with a sticky pad between the rad pipe and the hose then just tightened up well. I never had any trouble with it..

Or something like that, again in the top hose just cut an inch or so out an put that in there.

yes i was considering the hose insert (i have switches here) - cheapo here

but not sure if it will go in top hose neatly due to curves.

Well that says it's 68mm long, so have you got a straight section 68mm long on the hose?

If so then it should be alright...

    fan thermo switch on pinto

Looking today there is more room in top hose than I pictured so I think I will order one up.
Anyone know if Zetec has a thermo switch with a 1/8 (10mm ish) thread in the stat housing? I have some here but not sure if it's a switch.

a lot of fan contollers now have a probe which simply pushes into the rad core itself

I just had a boss fitted to the rad and used a standard ford fan switch screwed into it.

Re: fan thermo switch on pinto

yes, most new rads have a boss as std these days but its a very budget "parts bin" install so i will get a cheapo hose adapter . only issue is that most switches seem to be m14 thread so i will need to see if i can re tap it or find a 1/8 npt switch.
i have run a switch wire to dash for a manual operation but thermo would be nice.

    fan thermo switch on pinto

The rad place I use would do it pretty cheap just get it fitted in the right place as I found out first time 😳switches are about £6. Are the m14 ones for the ecu feed ? I use one like you find on a mk1 fiesta etc to switch the earth on the fan👍

And they will work accurately enough in the bottom hose as well.

    fan thermo switch on pinto

What's the thread on that fiesta switch?
I see motorsports tools do an adapter with 14 thread ( lots of fords seem 22 also)
Just trying to match what I have on the shelf. I need to test a few.

I would think it would be the 22mm as they are quite a large size part XEFS5 on burton looks about right. they are available at any car factor a lot cheaper.

Re: fan thermo switch on pinto

Are you sure the 22mm is not refering to the spanner size, a 22mm thread is going to be huge.... So it would probably be an m14 thread....

    I can't weld it :-/

I have a 14 tap so I think I will order a cheap adapter and see what meat it has. Possibly order a 22 tap if it looks like it will go but tbh 14x1.5 switches are available

I was able to get a pipe with the 22mm boss pre-welded on it but I can't find the supplier now. There are plenty of 14mm adaptors available for different size pipes though so I would go that way if you don't have a specific switch in mind. Also don't forget to use a relay unless you know for sure that the switch you are using has a high enough rating to drive the fan.
