    Mk1 and Mk2 seat compatability

    Hi All,

Looking at options for seats in my Mk1. I noticed however that there seems to be lots of options for mk2's and not so much for mk1's. Question is if I get say Cobra seats with mk2 subframe will this fit easily into mk1? (note I cannot weld and don't have access to anyone that can).

    Cheers,
    Shags

Earlier Mk1 escort seats had a completely different way of mounting to mk2 escorts. They hinged at the front in a bracket that is bolted to the seat crossmember and had no rear mount to speak of. Recaro seats had later type 4-bolt seat mounts as per mk2 escorts. Hence most off the shelf kit only reference fitting mk2's.
That being said, the floor pans are near identical so the seat frame will fit, you would just need to drill some holes to match the seat frame and bolt it in using some decent large washers to spread the load. You may have to drill through the front crossmember and floor and use very long bolts at the front but as long as you use decent load spreading it should be fine (the recaro's as fitted to my mk1 was fitted like this - that's how I bought it)
