Fitting Gartrac boreham arch kit (mk2)

Just bought a set of boreham spec arches , grp4 front spoiler and inner arch extensions for my mk2 escort project!

Im looking for a guide to fitting them the right way!

I have a rough idea of how to fit them but its always good to know the RIGHT way to do it!!

Im thinking bonded on and countersunk rivets!!

Dont wana be turning up at shows and folk being like WTF have you done there!!

    Cheers folks

Re: Fitting Gartrac boreham arch kit (mk2)

    Anyone?

Having trouble getting the rear ones to line up right!

Do i line up the bottom first and adjust the swage line at the top to suit the car?

If i line up with the top swage line thats on the arches first, it sits way off at the bottom?

To be honest i figured they would be a much better fit coming from gartrac!!

Re: Fitting Gartrac boreham arch kit (mk2)

have got them round the right way
is the swage line on the car straight you may need to adjust the lip a bit to get spot on
i got mine as good as poss then painted them and fitted them on after painting car this way you will not get paint cracking etc ,then i used silicon sealer between arch the counter sunk rivets ,but take you time to get holes right then drill q/p but make sure all the rivets go in without force as you could damage quarter and give a wobbly look to them
not not rush it good luck

my brother has just got his monte arches done on his mk2 and the rears were a proper nightmare, had to cut them at the top as they were pushing the top of the 1/4 in!? i still have to fettle about with them to get them 100% i couldn't get any kind of fitting diagram for some reason .a bloke from australia was very helpfull with tips and pics.i will try to get his details for you the arches came from prepfab .i was told that gartrac are the best.

Re: Fitting Gartrac boreham arch kit (mk2)

    Thanks guys!

Yeah they are the right way round They look like they only go on one way! The other way is just clearly not right!

The front ones look really straight forward but i think the rear ones are gonna be a propper nightmare!

So does any one know if Boreham arches generaly sit higher than tarmac arches?

I had a nightmare fitting the rears as well, I ended up cutting the flanges off and retrimming the arches to fit. Lower swage line I needed to rectify with filler. Arches was then bonded on with Sikaflex. Here's some pics of how I did mine.

    Morcheen, DarthVader,

are your arches made by Gartrac or did you buy them elsewhere?

    Cheers mate!

I take it your arches are the tarmac spec arches as they look like the sit just a fraction over the swage line!

i think the only way i can do it is by lining them at the bottom first! If i line them athe the top first theres no amount of filler that could make them look right!
Im sort of thinking i might phone gartrac and see if they can give me any advice cause i really dont want to mess this up !

Havnt you already been told by mark (2quick4u) to put them in bottom first then remake the top swage?? It sounds like they are never going to fit right the way they are now as the profile is wrong so i would be taking marks advice and doing it his way, all the cars he has ever done have looked perfect

Looks fine to me, fit them where they want to fit. Theres no right and wrong to fitting them, they are meant to be over the swage and they are so dont worry about it and just get them fitted will you

it looks like they are made wrong or you have them too high, then you will say they are too long ,but who fitted the sills are they in the right place ,
i got mine from ford and to this day dont no who made them and mine fitted 10 times better than that,
try them on another mk2 see how they fit ,if they are that bad send them back

Hmm Gartrac arches have been made like that for 40 years or so, so I doubt the arches will be the problem.

I had some fettling to do on the RH rear arch on my car, put down to 1970's tolerances, but its only soft ally & is easily sorted. In any case Gartrac & Boreham arches come from the same place don't they?

Il try them on my mates mk2 and see if there any different!

To be honest i never expected they would go straight on without any hassle! And if all ive got to do is reposition the swage line on the alloy then il be happy! Just wana make sure it looks right though! If they fit exactly the same on my mates car il get on the blower to gartrac and see if they can give if some info or if need be , Replacement arches!!

Re: Fitting Gartrac boreham arch kit (mk2)

    Good question mate!
Well from what i can tell looking at alot of mk2s with tarmac arches the boreham arch just sits a little higher and is a bit chunkier than the tarmac arch! As ive noticed mine and Clints seem to sit at the same height! More or less i think its just Gartracs own version!

Just a guess guys, i dont know if thats right or not!!!
