    Hey folks!
Managed to get another pretty productive day on the car again today!

With a lot of filing and trimming and filing again i managed to get the end of the sill sitting in pretty nicely! So thats that section all finished!
Then i made a start on putting the seat suppurt back in but noticed there was a piece that really could do with being chopped out and a new peice put in as it was just all nasty black rust! So i cut that out and then placed a new bit into the seat support!
Then i got the seat suport welded back into place!
Then the flap disc on the grinder came out, cleaned up my welds sprayed them all with acid 8 and that was me done for the day!
Next job is to finish off the wing rail then start to fix under the heater bowl!

    Cheers Nick mate

Getting quite determined to get the welding finished as soon as possible cause its starting to do my head in! Although saying that ive not really come over any major obstacles yet! Still got plenty motivation left tho!

The plan is-painted by end of summer-on the road by next summer!
Well see how that pans out!

Hows the capri coming along mate? Any pics?

Re: Mk2 project...Here we go again on my own( na na na na)

    Hey folks!
Another little bit of work done on the car today! Only worked today on it as ive just splashed out on a new sexy mountainbike to add to my collection so i was out settin that up and throwin mysel off some impressive jumps on wednesday!

Anyway. Managed to get the wing rails on today! to do that i actually had to fit the bonnet on for the first time which is from another car! Luckily its a good fit and the wing on the other side fits nicely up against that and the door!

I made all my carefull measurements for the wingrail and when it was sitting exactly where i wanted it i riveted it inplace then tried the wing on to make sure! Perfect fit! Everything seems to line up nicely!
so on it went with the welder!

I was happy enough i actualy got that finished today and was going to pack up when i decided to make a little start on the bit of rot under the heater bowl! I got the rotten bit chopped out and ive made a plate for the bottom section. il get that finished off next week then hopefully on with the heater bowl!
May even make a little start on removing the front panel next week!

Re: Mk2 project...Here we go again on my own( na na na na)

Managed to stear clear of the welder this week!

Decided to get stuck into removing the engine out of the granada so we can get rid of the shell! Any start stripping down the engine for a nice clean up and re build!

So i went out to Acro machine hire and hired out an engine crane for only £23 or the whole week! Fookin mint!

That was on wednesday and the engine was out by 2:00 today! So maybe a week was a little over the top but i just wasnt sure what time i was going to have!

So anyone thats lookin for a 1985 Mk2 Granada shell for (fixed price) £300 its all yours! The shells in pretty good shape having been lying under it for most of today the floor looks solid! The body work is sorted! only problem is its had a few paint repairs in its past with an aerosol so the finish it a bit uneven and shitty! Its needing a new front wing and a little bit of plating on the inner wings! Nothing too severe! In my opinion far to good a shell for banger racing but il let the new owner decide its fate!

More bodywork updates next week hopefuly!

Back onto the bodywork this week! Fookin knackered my knee when i was out on the bike so i was working at a bit of a granny pace! got a little done tho!
So we got the engine out along with the gearbox last week and a bloke came along today with some dosh and took the granada shell away to the banger racing circuit.
So thats money in my pocket for a world cup cross member and engine mounts and an rs sump! Should have enough soon to pick up my alloy radiator soon along with tramp bars and panhard rod kit!

Into the body work and i finished off welding up the under the heater bowl and managed to get that back on today! Instead of just putting brush sealer round it i decided to use filler as i just thought it would look nicer all smooth and straight! So i kind of caked that on! rubbing that down is not going to be fun! ATALL!!

Made a little start on removing the front panel! Just been taking it out in sections! and either using a chisel and hammer for the rest or just using the grinder!

Might need to be patient with the front panel! Got a feeling it might take me a while!

    Hey folks
Another week down, another little bit done!
Got all the filler rubbed round the heater bowl which turned out looking pretty good! Started to weld up the holes where the battery tray was removed but because the metal was so thin there i was just blowing bigger holes so decided to just cut out a section and piece another bit in!
Got the front panel completely removed! Air hamer being the tool of chice for this job
Offered up the front panel which seemed to fit like a glove as its a genuine Ford one! So i decided to make sure both wings fitted nicely too which they did so i cant complain!
So decided to remove the front panel and completely straighten all the edges and remove all the paint from behind the front panel so i can get it all smooth and coated with etch before the front panel goes on!
Got it all stripped and primed so i went round all the edges to be welded and made little holes for the plugs welds!
Now the front panel is sitting clamped in place ready to be welded next week!

Next job after that will be cleaning all the old under seal from the inner wings! removing the front struts and fitting the strut top plates!

Going to order up mu world cup crossmember and engine mounts this weekend and start looking for an RS sump!

With welding up the holes from the battery tray, did you put a copper penny behind the holes to weld onto? It means you can weld onto the penny as if you were plug welding to a panel behind instead of blowing holes trying to hit the edge!

Aside from that, nice work as usual

Definately try it, i have converted the boys at plough lane Its an old tip from gary (retro) except i think he uses a copper mallet!

Just make sure the penny is an old one, in the 90's they changed from copper to steel so you could end up with 2p's all over the place if your not careful The copper ones only get stuck sometimes if you get them really really hot and are doing a big hole so just take them slow or keep pulling it off and let it cool

Re: Mk2 project...Here we go again on my own( na na na na)

Another week gone! and another little bit done

Managed to get the front panel welded on!, im so glad thats done as it was a bit of a pain in the arse!
Never realised just how many plug welds the front panel takes to got on, but its on now!

Started to piece a bit of metal in where i cut the section out where the battery was! I was blowing big holes in it trying to plug the holes up so decided to cut a section out! Then unfortunately the welder stopped workin! I got the piece in but i need to seem weld it up! Will hopefuly get it fixed for next week tho!
Tried out dangerous daves tip with the penny when i blew a little hole in the front panel and it works a treat!

Once the welder packed in i decided not to waste a day on it so ive started stripping the paint from the engine bay! Got one side of the inner wing done and the scuttle panel!
Just used a heat gun and scraper then 80 grit on the sander to do it and it came up a treat!

Next week il maybe get the struts off and crossmember and anti roll bar so i can start stripping the rest! Then il weld in the strut top plates and get the front end into etch!

Re: Mk2 project...Here we go again on my own( na na na na)

    Hey folks
Been working away on the old mk2 but it doesnt seem like ive got a lot to show for it! Well more or less its been stripping the underseal from the inner wings and stripping the paint from in the engine bay! `The engine bay had been coated with under seal before being painted white so i thought id get rid of all that! Plus theres quite a bit of surface rust so il get that shot of aswell!
Possibly the most dull and tedious job on the car so far with the old heat gun and scrapper but heck its all in the prep work so itl be worth it in the end!

Once its all bare metalled il etch the front end and get the wings on!

Hopefully il have more to show in terms of pics next time!

Re: Mk2 project...Here we go again on my own( na na na na)

Decided to pop round my mates tonight and see how hes gettin on with his mk2 cossie build! Its almost there! just a fuel pump to get i think and theyll get it ticked over! Looking nice tho!

Also noticed a cheeky little something tucked away in the corner! Those of you who have seen gone in 60 seconds might recognise this bad boy! Its the new Elenor project! Complete with a nice 10k Ford racing V8 under the bonnet!

Think hes just got it for the bodywork then its going elsewhere for the build up! Awesome!

Apologies for the photos tho! I only had my phone with me!
Word of advice! dont get a samsung g600 phone! Shite camera!

    Hey folks

Bore out my mind so i thought i would post another thread!

Managed to get round my mum and dads today to see them and have a little nosey in the garage and my dads started stripping the engine! Unfortunately theres no pics but il try get round and take some pics next week!

A bit depressing seeing the shell sitting there just waiting to get worked on again! I had grp4 strut top strengthening plates but decided to order up some RS ones just cause i prefer the way they look!

Also ordered a spline tool socket set so my dad can take the cylinder head off, Also found a copper mallet on ebay to help with my dodgy welding!

Gonna go on Rally Design i think this avo and order up some tramp bars and i think that might be all the spending done for me just now!

Anyway, i got the cast off my arm and had all 27 staples removed from it! Barely got any movement in my arm but im starting physio next week! I broke the sodding thing in 3 places

Managed to get rid of the wheel chair a couple of weeks ago and now im getting about quite well on an elbow crutch! Im going to santa pod next weekend so hopefuly the walking will be better by then! Just look out for the guy on the crutch

Also got a wee kitten a couple of weeks ago to cheers me up!
Wee named her Cookie(monster)! and she is my new mascot!

Re: Mk2 project...Here we go again on my own( na na na na)

Well finally folks ive been given the all clear by the hospital and my bones are more or less healed
    Which means only one thing

Work on the car has resumed!!

Iv been back on it now for a couple of days and ive managed to get a little bit done. I began by carrying on from where i left off about 4 or 5 months ago, which was stripping the front end!
But i decided to get stuck right in and get it done and that is 90% finished now! just need to go round some of the rusty bits with a wire brush again, before i put a coat of epoxy primer on the front end. Need to get all the welding finished first tho!
Ive got the RS strut top strengthening plates welded in place now, which i think came out alright, Then i decided to weld in the strut brace brackets! for someone who hasnt been welding very long i think they turned out ok! but obviously i wont win any awards on neatness any time soon

Then i decided to cut out the top part of the radiator support panel to take the large alloy rad il get for it a little later on, When i was at the ford fair i picked up the radiator cut out panel along with support brackets for just £10. Bargain!!

So i measured it up and cut the lower part out to take the cut out panel. Next step is to weld it in!

Also ive decided im going to have 5 holes along the front panel instead of the traditional 2 rectangle slots so iv began making the panel out of sheet metal and tomorrow il get il all measured up for fitting.

    Should get more done tomorrow
