2 Coats of base coat and 3 coats of laquer later and we have the floor in paint!!

The Cars gonna be yellow but this will be the interior colour, engine bay colour and boot colour!

Next step is? Dont actually know im just so chuffed i finally got some paint on the sodding thing! Even if it is just the floor!

Start cleaning up the axle next i think!

    Lol! cheers guys!

Naaaah its a nice colour but its gotta be yellow for me! The engine bay, boot and interior will be this colour though so if i change my mind on yellow a little later then a colour change will be piss easy!!

Plus ive already named it the flying banana!!

Re: Mk2 project...Here we go again on my own( na na na na)

College is all finished, and im now looking forward to the summer holidays, which for me involves a month travelling around the states!!

Car is turned back over with the help of 5 mates and next week im gonna start working on the car again. Im thinking the interior will be my next plan of attack! sooner i can get that into paint the better and i can get the boot and engine bay done. Then its all body work which shouldnt take long!

I thought id put this little animation thing i did in college up, Its the first ever animation and modelling ive done using Autodesk 3Ds max. So its not brilliant but i really like using the software so im gonna keep working with it and try get my models more complex and realistic looking. I Came into alot of problems when i was rendering it due to the shitness of my graphics card on my computer so the animations not that great but a good starting point i think!

Anyway il get some more pics of the car up next week!

Re: Mk2 project...Here we go again on my own( na na na na)

    Hey Folks

Not posted anything on here for a while but with good reason.! Im not long back from getting married to my wonderful Wife in Central Park NY, then spending 4 weeks travelling around the States!! Had such an amazing time but unfortunately its time to get back to reality!

So work on the Mk2 has resumed although a little slow

The car is turned back around the right way and i have started work in the interior, Ive decided to start strengthening the shell a little so ive welded in most of the large holes on the A, B and C pillars after spending fooking ages making the right sized templates!!

After welding them all in i started grinding all my welds down with the grinder untill the grinder bounced back and took a massive chunk out my hand and spraying blood all over the inside of my car!!

Anyway 4 stitches later!! I decided to leave the grinder for a while untill ive got a decent belt sander to finish grinding the welds down with! Hence why they still look little messy in bits!!

Ive started bare metalling the rest of the interior, ready for a coat of epoxy primer

Once this is primed, sand and prime the roll cage then get that stuck in!

Not decided wether or not to put roll cage strengtheners in or not ?!?!

Tell me about it mate! This whole gettin married business take up alot of time!! I cant complain! ive got an awesome wife!!

Id be gettin more done on it if it wasnt for my daily Focus needin some work on the brakes but il get stuck back in tomorrow hopefully!

Ive got a pinto for it just now that i bought of my mate! Decent Burton spec, BVH and high lift cam with some 45s to go with it so itl do for a couple years but ideally i want an N/A Cossie in it eventually!!

Im toying with the idea of good old signal yellow in base and clear but after a trip to Silverstone theres a few light blues that have caught my eye!! Not totally decided yet

Just thought id chuck that in!! If it didnt work, it was a video of me shooting an M16 while i was in Texas in July with my Wifes family!! Super awesome fun!!! I also had a shot of a 1927 sniper rifle, a little revolver, a glock 18 handgun and a 12 guage shotgun!! I held an AK47 but there was no rounds for it so hopefully next time il get a shot!!

Anyway! now back to the Mk2, been doing away on it! basically ive been rubbing down every little nook and crannie, getting the interior all completely into bare metal! Today i went round and sprayed 2 coats of epoxy primer in there so now the shell doesnt have any more bare metal!!!

Next step is to order up some hight build primer and get all in the engine bay nice and smooth ready for colour! Im ive got a little bit of seam sealing to do in the interior so il get cracking on with that too!!

Re: Mk2 project...Here we go again on my own( na na na na)

    Hey folks,

Okay so its maybe been a bit of a while since i posted progress on here theres one main reason for that! well there aint been any!

TBH though, iv just done a year at University and had absolutely no time at all to work on this. I just finished up though and i have got propper stuck back into the mk2. Im pretty much working on this most of the time now as im looking for a job which is proving to be a bit on the difficult side! What better way to spend my time than cracking on with this.

So ive sprayed 3 coats of high build primer in the engine bay and slowly started to wet sand the entire engine bay until it was smooth as a babies arse. Finally i managed to get the engine bay painted with base and clear and think the finish is actually quite nice! Think it basically took me about a week to get it from primer to paint! then i decided i was being far too fussy and started to up the pace a little! I decided to strip the axle down at the same time and get that ready for paint as well, so the axle is now all shiny and freshly painted too!

Hopefully the updates should be a little more frequent just now. but when i eventually get a full time job this will end up being a weekend project!

Re: Mk2 project...Here we go again on my own( na na na na)

Another little update, and another step further forward
Not one to give myself light work, after completely baremetalling the entire interior, i epoxy primed it all and laid down 3 coats of high build primer. This took fookin ages to rub down, hence why im only putting up the painted result pics now!
with 3 coats of stonechip on the inside of the roof and the floor i left that to dry and the next day i painted the interior. 3 coats of colour and 2 coats of lacquer later and i was done. Pretty sure i must of pissed off all my neighbours though cause the whole street was reeking of paint!

Any way, with all that done its a bit of a relief as all thats left to do (bodywork) wise it the outside which is the bit ive been looking forward to. Plus i get to finally use my expensive panel blocks i spend £300 on 3 years ago!!

I fitted all the panels on last night and im going to spend a bit of time blocking panels and making sure everything lines up nicely, the rear arches have already been measured up but im hoping the front ones wont be too much of a pain. Ive heard the front spoilers a nightmare as its the boreham spec kit ive got from Gartrac.
