Hey Guys n Gals
Dont worry, ive not lost the will on this, ive just been bashing on without a camera recently, nothing really interesting to take a picture of just now although ill be round there tonight so ill get a couple pic taken
Engines in, and both my back and my Dads back is now healed Hit a bit of a wall with mounting the gearbox so i cant actually move the car to get it lined up for painting. Well hopefully get something sorted with that soon, I think some persuading and hammering may be in order.
Paint is ordered!!!!
Watch this space as the car is good to go with the colour!!
Just had a little browse through my phone and there was a couple of slightly more recent pictures on there so here we go
Good stuff mate
Fitting the gearbox is a whole lot easier if you drop down the engine crossmember - either on a jack or long bolts.

i like that colour, is it a normal colour or a 1 off???
Yet again, ive hit a bit of a backwards step, the front arches and spoiler have been bugging me for a while but ive been putting it to the back of my head. I think there just sitting too low, way too low maybe.
Ive been trying to convince myself it was fine and i could live with it but the more i think about it, the more i think that nows the right time to sort it, before i get it into paint. Pretty big set back but ive decided to sort it! i just hope the arches are salvageable as this could be a rather costly learning curve!
Yes its best to sort things out now before paint cos if not it will niggle away at you till your conscience forces you to do it
coming on nicely tho

Cheers lads its definitely worth doing, the shell is ready to paint so once i sort this little hiccup were good to go! i think im just gonna line up the top lip of the arch with the swage on the front wing and take it from there, its a good 2 and a bit inch raise so should make a big difference, plus, id imagine it will be much better for wheel clearance. Actually feel a bit better that ive decided to do it as i dont want anything on the car that im not happy with! whats the point!
Couldnt resist putting a little bit of the exterior colour on today
Love it....
Hey folks
Went out yesterday with the wheels and thought id do a little test fit. They look awesome but its currently sitting like a 4x4 so its definitely got to come down. Ive got Capri Bilteins on the front and i think it must me standard ride height springs on the front. I was thinking about lowering it -2" at the front but i think the rear already has -2 inch blocks on it. Does anyone know if i can stack another -1 inch block under there or is that gonna make the car drive like shit?
Also, i think theres a definite MOT failure at the front. On full lock, the wheels rub the inner wheel tubs anyone else had this issue? there 15x8s all round
Hey Folks
Well, I dont have much to report here other than................Its PAINTED!!
Finally went round on Saturday, after a week of prepping the garage with sheeting and going over and over the car being superly anal about the body work. even went to the extent of using 3000 grade trizac pads to smooth out any scratches in the primer caused by using 800 wet and dry. I hired an air ventilator as well and what i difference it made when spraying the car.
Anyway, ill let the pictures do the talking, 3 coats of colour and 3 1/2 coats of lacquer! Im really happy with how it turned out, a few bits of dirt in it but i plan on flattening it all right down and giving it a really good finish! Ive just got the doors and bonnet to do which will be done this week
Well done mate, looks like a tidy job!
Look forward to seeing it on the wheels, will suit the colour well
cheers,auld
Cheers mate, im pretty chuffed with how it turned out. Im just on the final push to paint the doors and bonnet then ive just got a wee bit to spot in on the engine bay, getting there!
looking good bud
if it aint broke, break it!
Hey folks
Another little bit of spraying done last night, thats all the panels now painted at the back, now i just need to turn them over and spray the olympic blue on the out side and thats the majority of the spraying done!
love that colour buddy, really looking the bitz nw
Hey folks
Thats all the spraying done well, for now anyway
All the panels are painted, literally all there is left to paint is a little blow in on the engine bay and the door checks need to be sprayed the interior colour and boom! job done! panels came out really well, again, 3 coats of colour and 3 coats of lacquer so ill give it all a good flatten and polish
Hey Folks
Well after 3 weeks on my jollies to the states im back and working on the Escort!
I had a little bit more painting to do in the engine bay so thats now complete, along with spraying the inner door checks which are now also sprayed.
I popped round at the weekend and fitted all the panels for the last time hopefully, and also stuck the bling bling wheels on Managed to chip both the doors whilst fitting them! typical, but its nothing a bit touch up wont fix!
Anyway, heres some pics of where its at just now and i have to say, the motivation is back now i think after seeing it all put together. The car needs lowered but i think its still on standard ride height springs at the front just now anyway so ill try -2" ones and see how they look. I don't want to be battling with speed bumps so don't want it too low.
REAL nice mate, colour really suits it. Will look perfect dropped a couple inches right enough
Cheers,auld
That looks great well done
Cheers fellas
looking nice
good progress
Cheers mate
looks really good ! is it all done yet ?
I wish mate
Ive just finished a pretty epic flatten and polish, now im masking up round the windows and front panel so that i can paint the black bits! I think its gonna be a slow process putting it back together though as lack of funds has always been a bit of an issue with it!
Ill just make sure the receipts are well hidden from the wife
Hey Folks
Its been a bit of a slow few months on the car, mainly due to lack of funds! Although i have been plodding on where i can!
Ive got all the black bits painted around the windows and front panel, fitted sound deadening/insulation pads at the back of the doors and rear quarters and behind where the fuel tank is gonna go as well, Ive fitted all the windows to the sides complete with all new rubbers and winding mechanisms for the doors. Ive ordered the rear window rubber from burton, just waiting on it showing up and ill get the back window in! Still need to get a laminated windscreen and rubber.
Also got the old engine gunk out and started cleaning the carburettors, then i decided to polish the trumpets, just for sheer under bonnet gayness!
Fitted the bonnet pins for an extra 5bhp and the rear spoiler
Heres some pics of how she sits at the moment
Oh, and in June this year I'm going to become a Dad for the first time!

Luckily I've got a pretty understanding wife, she's always known that the car will never be sold and that its should never even be suggested! lol
I think she's quite keen on me getting it finished as well although theres gonna be a few months when the baby arrives that I'm not gonna get near it! hopefully my Dad plods along with it though! he had the wiring all rolled out yesterday contemplating making a start!
