    Clutch flywheel issues

Hi, getting close to finishing my duratec mk1 cortina install. I have rebuilt engine and now have a couple of issues with mating to the mx5 gearbox. Any help greatly appreciated
    1. The starter when engaged does not come far enough to meet with flywheel. Does that mean I have the wrong starter?
    2. I got a lightened flywheel off the bay, it says cosworth but i cant find one the same on internet. Does anybody know its manufacturer.
    3. Which leads me to the next question, how do I work out what clutch fits??

    Hopefully the images work.
    Cheers in advance

    Re: Clutch flywheel issues

I’m at this stage with mine now.

If you're using a Mazda starter motor you have to use a Mazda flywheel, I think that’s why the starter doesn’t come out far enough.
I’m not sure what flywheel that is but possible from a fiesta st? Or something ford if made by cosworth.

I plan on using this kit from America
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/381734609800

Depending on what you’re using 5/6 speed the input shaft on the Gearbox will have different splines so order the correct one when buying your clutch. There are uk sellers but they want £300 just for the clutch alone.

So my advice would be use everything Mazda if using a Mazda box just makes it all easy but mix and match is possible, there’s a couple of threads on here if you search.

    Thanks for getting back
Iv decided to change tact, currently waiting for sbd getting back to me or possibly raceline. Difficulty is matching to the mx5 gearbox, once I've got that sorted I'm laughing

I did talk to retroford, he was very helpful but at the moment trying to come up with a less expensive route than he could offer. Will weigh up all the options.

Hi quick update, went with doughman's recommended flywheel and clutch, very happy. Re: Clutch flywheel issues

Started mocking up the oil pump tonight. 3d modelled the bracket and laser cut it out of perspex first to check it fits. Couple of small alterations to do but happy with first go.Click image for larger version Name:	20171115_185009-453x604.jpg Views:	122 Size:	109.8 KB ID:	81810

Hi Mate what starter motor did you use ? I am at this stage with an engine from a fiesta st. Looking at this setup you have used to mate to the MX5 gearbox but wondering if my current starter will fit.

    Thanks

    Re: Clutch flywheel issues

Hi, I'm not sure, it came with the gearbox and engine and in my quest for engine components black I sprayed it and now can't see identification doh! I think it's the Mazda one though as the clutch kit was for the Mazda and it fits perfect.

I think i will be following this route as well now. I assume this was shipped from America, the E-bay add states £122 postage is this what it cost you etc or is it worth contacting them.

    Thanks again

    Re: Clutch flywheel issues

I looked at my purchase but it only gives me the cost not the postage, think it was shy of 300, great value for money considering what you get. Hasn't been used in anger yet though!

    Re: Clutch flywheel issues

that sounds about right given the cost of the parts.
