Hello
Can anyone explain me how to refill my standard steering hose? Which plate do I need to open?
Already opened the one where steering colomn is not fitted. There's a white rubber/plastic in it, do I need to take that one out?
Thankyou!

escort rack doesnt have any oil in it!!!!!
however if you pop the inner ends of the rack gaitors off pop the rack on lock you can grease the rack teeth
Hi, I beg to differ. Lubrication is needed for the rack and pinion and the nylon or bronze bush at the near side end of the rack. It should contain 0.15 litres of SAE EP90 Gear Oil. Ref Haynes manual. With the rack off the car fit the Bush end gaiter and fill from the pinion end, then refit the pinion end gaiter. Unless you think you may have lost all the oil it is difficult to assess how much to replace when on the car, over filling risks it being pushed out of the gaiters. It is a long time since I have done it, but Gear Oil used to come in squeezable bottles with a 'J' shaped screw on nozzle that you could just about get inside a gaiter if you released the wire or clamp at the inboard end. It is a messy job on the car! I may be a new member but I have owned and maintained my own 1 MK1 and 3 Mk2 Escorts since 1976 as well as a spell part time in a Garage business. I hope this helps.

yes lubricant on assembly, but unless your going to strip it bare, dont see how its going to get anywhere as as there are no seals inside if its going to weep out again
