    Pinto Turbo - Holset HX35

Ok so I will be running a Holset HX35 on a fully forged pinto, exhaust manifold is going to be a full divided one with 2 external wastegate's, one for each port.

Now my question is what size wastegate's do i need?

Big Turbo and high ish boost means a small gate, that is what I have been lead to believe, with this in mind would i need to run two 38mm gates or would i need to go up to 40mm?

I'm pretty sure 2 good 38 mm wastegates will be plenty.

Probably worth going for quality instead of size... I run a single generic 60 mm Chinese wastegate on my Capri, and I do think it has some creep. Should have bought a smaller but better wastegate.

What sort of boost are you running? Would 2 38mm Tial for instance be ok with around 2.0 bar of boost or more?

With the HX35 I was running around 1.9 bar max boost and could regulate down to under 1 bar if needed.

2x38 mm wastegates have roughly 80% of the area of one 60 mm, you might not be able to go below 1 bar but maybe that's not an issue?

On initial running in I would like less boost but if that's the lowest then I'll know to be gentle on the throttle.

Maybe two 44mm will be better?

I need to decide about a dump valve as well, personally i hate the noise they make but seems to be the general rule is that i'll need to run one to stop the turbo from being damaged? Where is the best place to mount one, after the intercooler and before the throttle body?

I wouldn't worry about using good 38 mm wastegates.

My dump valve is between the turbo and intercooler, mostly for packaging issues. There are different theories on placement but I don't think it matters much.

If you don't like the sound, use a recirculating valve and direct the return flow into the turbo intake. That will dampen the sound a bit.
