    Rolleyes Brakes Problem

    Hi everyone,

I have just installed my new brakes and brake lines, filled the pot up, and bled them.

The brakes still felt a little spongey, so i went to bleed them again. After holding the pedal down, undoing the bleed nipple and nipping up again, the pedal went completely to the bottom of travel.

So... I had a quick Google, which told me it looked like the master cylinder. I took the master cylinder to bits, but everything looked fine, ie the seals weren't worn (New cylinders too)

A little bit of fluid came out of the rear bleed nipple when I replaced everything and pumped for 100 x lol.

Does anyone have any ideas? Or is it likely to be the master cylinder?

    Many thanks

    Jamie

    Re: Brakes Problem

When you held down the pedal and opened the bleed nipple (I assume you had 2 people here!) did a decent amount of fluid come out? I expect little to none.

On the end of the plunger inside the MC there is a rubber seal. As you press the pedal this seal is pushed up against the end of the MC sealing off the fluid reservoir. If there is rubbish inside the MC or if that seal isn't perect then it will not seal completely and as you press the pedal you are efectively pumping fluid back INTO the reservoir. You can test this by pressing the pedal and watching the fluid level in the reservoir.

I assume no fluid leaking out the MC shaft?

I assume no fluid coming out anywhere it shouldn't? Sometimes when bleeding and you cannot get that last bit of pedal pressure it is due to air being sucked passed the threads of the bleed nipple. Teflon tape can assist here.

Just a few thoughts. Good luck.

Sounds, smells and sensations signal brake problems: Screeching, grinding, squealing, rubbing and other eardrum piercing noises are common indicators that your brake pads & shoes require inspection. This should be addressed before worn pads cause damage to other parts, which could result in more expensive repairs.

As the OP stated that he has just Installed his NEW BRAKES it wont be in need of new pads or shoes will it. The issue is with bleeding said NEW BRAKES...

All fixed now fellas, thanks for your help. I bought a new one and fitted it, everything seemed fine, so it must have been the seal or dirt in the fluid
