    XE Head

    Hello all,
I have the later type luton lump, With the coil pack. What modifications are needed to the head to get it to slot into me escort?
The distributor mounting needs taking off along with the coolant outlet, anything else?
Where could i get this done? cause i aint got the foggesyest!
    Cheers Josh

Its pretty easy mate i just done it. If you look at the back of the head with the cam cover still on, look where the cam cover gasket goes around the dizzy mount-you need to take off everything beyond the gasket line. All i did was slowly hacksaw down between the gasket and bracket-the bracket gives you an edge to work against-take your time and keep an eye on the straightness of your cut-not too important it will just look better.

The exhaust cam will need cutting to the same length of the inlet cam-again hacksaw will do it, then you can bung the hole in the end of cam, either tap a thread and loctite a bolt in or i think QED does a blanking kit with dizzy blank & a ball bearing to knock into cam. Also if you look closely in the pic theres a small hole under cam hole that will need plugging.

    Re: XE Head

bit late now i guess, but i took the cam out of mine, took it to a local engineering firm and told them what i wanted, i.e. shortened to the same length as the other cam and the central oil way blocking......... they did it in a day , looked lovely and they blocked the hole with a grub screw and charged me a tenner, sorted.
rust , rust and more rust,.....wait, wheres the rust gone now ?

    Re: XE Head

I had my LET head (same as xe) done for mine, I'm only using NA cams but had the exhaust cam cut and plugged with a core plug fitted on the last cam cap as Mexeco mentions The water gallery had a core plug fitted. The dizzy housing was then machined off and the porous mod was carried out which consists of a hollow tube being inserted in the centre of the the head, the 2 gallerys shown in the pictures above are then joined with a small piece of braided hose and 2 banjos as shown below on a friends engine.

IF I want a cam sensor I'll run it off the cam pulley.

Yes that small hole will need blocking too.

    Re: XE Head

Bumping a bit of a old thread here but on all the heads I have the porous mod done to that grub screw is removed and a banjo and braided line is run over to the opposite grub screw which then diverts the oil.

Mine is now on my engine and I don't have a pic but if you look at the pic of the blue xe I posted a few posts above you will see the braided line I mention, it all depends if you are going to carry out the porous mod or not ? in my eyes if your spending a fair bit on getting it ported etc.. its a no brainer
