why is it that every car i buy has had fecking over sills fitted by some bodge artist, why the hell do people fit these bloody things? they should be band and that would force people to repair them properly!

im still working on the bloody mini , the rust was a bit worse than i originally thought? but ive made good progress on it in the last few days. ive not long finished working on it for today and im knackered. ill get some pics and info up soon okay lads.

it passed the m.o.t. yeah!
it took me two days to cut all the rot out and replace the holes with good metal but now its all sorted for years to come.i only had a rattle can to spray the sill that even though it stated that it was teal blue on the can it looked a completely different colour than was on the car? oh well the back valance needs a respray so this can be sprayed properly at the same time, but its done for now anyways.
and im back on the road

put a day in on the escort yesterday i got a far bit done too. i cut out the rusty chassis rail and thanks to dangerous dave replaced it with a new rail. i drilled out the spot welds on the front section of the rail and got the new one fitting really good. but one side was pretty rusty so cut this off and fabricated a new section. then flared the other end out to overlap the back bit of rail by a couple of inches to keep as much strenth as possible, then plug and seam welded it all in. i got the inner sill welded in place with the seatbelt mount on it!?!
then done the inner section that goes on the rear of the inner sill to join up with the outer sill, test fitted the outer sill and all is good so far.
the front floor pan is now welded in place although for a fricking change my camera is not playing ball, and only let me take a few photos before packing up! so more pics to come laters

For the holes in the floor get an old copper 2p and weld onto it to fill the holes up

haha i thought i was the only donut that drilled holes on the wrong side of the chasis rail that genuinly made me laugh when i saw that, especially as you done the lot lol, i was lucky i realised my cock up after 1 hole:

held in the rear car park of the griffin in bridgeyate on the double mini roundabout, every tuesday, 7:30/8:00 onwards obviously if the weather's dodgy or it's raining they don't turn up

i bashed this piece from a bit of sheet metal with a hammer and a vice, as the repair panel to go here was just to expensive. it turned out pretty good fit considering

I just found this and am quite impressed with your work. I am equally impressed that you are able to do all this in that tiny little garage! I will definately keep watching this one. can't wait to see it done. I wish we had gotten these escorts in the States. I am really starting to want one now. Maybe when I get settled in Oz next year I will start looking for one. Keep it up.

ive started work on the rear arches, just riviting them in place. ive spaced them out 2" apart. im not to bothered about getting them perfectly blended in with the bodywork as im allready thinking of doing it properly with some metal arches in the future so they will be left like this for now with the rivits showing, at least at a later date i can drill the rivits out easily and maybey sell the fibreglass arches if i need to?
i did a bit of seam sealing on the floor too, this will all be covered in underseal as with the rest of the bottom of the car, as it will be used on a dailly basis and in all weathers.

got the old girl back over the other side of the garage then cut the wheel arch out

then boxed it in. still a small bit to fill in between the wing and the sill.
